{"id":44073,"date":"2026-08-18T08:03:41","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T13:03:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=44073"},"modified":"2026-08-15T12:50:49","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T17:50:49","slug":"detroit-lakes-105-mph-chase-leads-to-felony-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/detroit-lakes-105-mph-chase-leads-to-felony-charge\/","title":{"rendered":"Detroit Lakes: 105 MPH Chase Leads to Felony Charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<h2>Detroit Lakes: 105 MPH Chase Leads to Felony Charge<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Detroit Lakes<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Jonathan Lee Kinney faces felony fleeing and misdemeanor assault charges in Becker County.<\/p>\n<p>The charges stem from a June 10, 2025, incident at Walmart in Detroit Lakes.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Kinney assaulted a woman inside the store before fleeing police in a black Lexus.<\/p>\n<p>The case is filed as 03-CR-25-1405.<\/p>\n<h2>Surveillance Shows Alleged Assault<\/h2>\n<p>Police were called to Walmart around 7:34 a.m. after an employee reported an assault.<\/p>\n<p>The employee said a man grabbed a woman and pushed her against a wall near the entrance.<\/p>\n<p>The woman declined to identify the man when police first spoke with her.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators then reviewed store surveillance video.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says the video showed Kinney grabbing the woman&#8217;s sweatshirt and pushing her against the wall.<\/p>\n<p>Kinney then left the store in a black Lexus with dealer plates, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n<h2>Pursuit Reaches 105 MPH<\/h2>\n<p>Police remained near the store after reviewing the video.<\/p>\n<p>About nine minutes later, the suspect vehicle allegedly returned to the Walmart parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>An officer approached the vehicle near the grocery entrance.<\/p>\n<p>The driver allegedly accelerated through the parking lot as police activated emergency lights and sirens.<\/p>\n<p>The Lexus then turned onto Highway 10 and continued at high speed, the complaint states.<\/p>\n<p>The pursuing officer reached 105 mph but could not keep up.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities later received information that the vehicle traveled through Audubon before turning north.<\/p>\n<p>Police were unable to locate the vehicle during that initial pursuit.<\/p>\n<h2>Investigators Identify Kinney<\/h2>\n<p>Investigators later identified the woman and linked her to Kinney through North Dakota law enforcement records.<\/p>\n<p>Police compared Walmart surveillance images with photographs of Kinney.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says a Facebook image and prior booking photo appeared to match the Walmart suspect.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators also noted clothing that allegedly connected Kinney to a former employer.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says these details helped investigators identify Kinney as the suspect.<\/p>\n<h2>Two Charges Filed<\/h2>\n<p>Kinney faces felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 609.487<\/a> covers fleeing or attempting to flee an officer in a vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The felony carries up to three years and one day in prison.<\/p>\n<p>It also carries a possible fine of up to $5,000.<\/p>\n<p>Kinney also faces misdemeanor fifth-degree assault involving fear of bodily harm or death.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.224\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 609.224<\/a> covers that form of fifth-degree assault.<\/p>\n<p>The misdemeanor carries up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also references other pending court matters involving Kinney.<\/p>\n<p>Those matters are separate from the Detroit Lakes allegations.<\/p>\n<p>The filing requested a warrant based partly on those matters and the alleged fleeing offense.<\/p>\n<p>Public case information may be available through <a href=\"https:\/\/mncourts.gov\/access-case-records\/mcro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Court Records Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The current charges remain allegations and do not establish guilt.<\/p>\n<p>Kinney is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Adrian Cole reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><small>Copyright 2026 TRF News.
