Detroit Lakes Man Faces Felony Bad-Check Charges<\/h2>\n

Detroit Lakes<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Eric Allan Lemer faces two felony dishonored-check charges in Becker County.<\/p>\n

The charges involve purchases at L&M Fleet in Detroit Lakes during November 2025.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege each check exceeded $500 and was returned because of insufficient funds.<\/p>\n

The allegations are detailed in Becker County District Court file 03-CR-26-1024.<\/p>\n

Two Checks Reported by Store<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, L&M Fleet reported two checks written by Lemer.<\/p>\n

The first check was allegedly written on November 24, 2025.<\/p>\n

That check was for $593.54, according to court records.<\/p>\n

A second check was allegedly written on November 28, 2025.<\/p>\n

The second check was for $600.89.<\/p>\n

The complaint says both checks were returned because the account lacked sufficient funds.<\/p>\n

Store surveillance allegedly showed Lemer entering, writing the checks, and leaving after each purchase.<\/p>\n

The cashier also verified Lemer’s driver’s license during the transactions, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The driver’s license information was recorded on both checks under store loss-prevention procedures.<\/p>\n

Store Sends Demand for Payment<\/h2>\n

L&M Fleet sent Lemer a payment demand on December 12, 2025, court records state.<\/p>\n

The demand covered both disputed checks.<\/p>\n

An affidavit showing service of the demand was included in the investigative report.<\/p>\n

An investigator later interviewed Lemer at the Clay County Jail on January 14, 2026.<\/p>\n

Lemer received a Miranda warning before agreeing to speak, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors say Lemer acknowledged remembering both transactions.<\/p>\n

He allegedly recalled writing the $593.54 check and the later $600.89 check.<\/p>\n

The complaint also attributes a statement to Lemer about writing bad checks while using drugs.<\/p>\n

Two Felony Counts Filed<\/h2>\n

Prosecutors charged Lemer with two counts of issuing a dishonored check.<\/p>\n

Minnesota Statute 609.535<\/a> covers issuance of dishonored checks.<\/p>\n

Checks valued above $500 can carry felony-level penalties under the statute.<\/p>\n

Each count carries a listed maximum sentence of five years in prison.<\/p>\n

Each count also carries a possible fine of up to $10,000.<\/p>\n

The case was filed by summons in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District.<\/p>\n
