{"id":42861,"date":"2026-08-10T20:31:05","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T01:31:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=42861"},"modified":"2026-08-10T20:31:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T01:31:05","slug":"moorhead-man-charged-in-honor-flight-trailer-theft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/moorhead-man-charged-in-honor-flight-trailer-theft\/","title":{"rendered":"Moorhead Man Charged in Honor Flight Trailer Theft"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Moorhead Man Charged in Honor Flight Trailer Theft<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Moorhead<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Minnesota man faces felony charges involving a stolen Veterans Honor Flight trailer.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Joseph Andert, 74, of Staples, Minnesota, was charged Monday, Aug. 10.<\/p>\n<p>The Clay County Attorney&#8217;s Office filed three felony theft charges against Andert.<\/p>\n<p>He also faces one felony charge of criminal damage to property.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Andert stole a trailer filled with Veterans Honor Flight of ND\/MN merchandise.<\/p>\n<p>The trailer was taken early Aug. 3 from the Moorhead American Legion.<\/p>\n<p>Items inside included shirts, tumblers, folding tables, carts and other supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities estimated the destroyed merchandise was worth about $30,000.<\/p>\n<h2>Video Helps Investigators Track Trailer<\/h2>\n<p>Court documents say surveillance video captured the trailer theft.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators identified a vehicle and obtained its license plate number.<\/p>\n<p>Records connected that vehicle to Andert, according to court documents.<\/p>\n<p>Police agencies in Moorhead, Fargo and Detroit Lakes worked together on the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities also used Flock license plate reader technology to develop leads.<\/p>\n<p>The technology helped investigators track the trailer and identify the suspected vehicle.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px 0;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 500px; width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/ANDERT-ROBERT-JOSEPH.jpg\" alt=\"Robert Andert mugshot\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px;\"><em>Robert Andert<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Search Finds Evidence of Burned Merchandise<\/h2>\n<p>Authorities searched Andert&#8217;s property on Friday, Aug. 7, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators found a burn pile containing evidence linked to Honor Flight merchandise.<\/p>\n<p>Andert&#8217;s wife also spoke with investigators during the search.<\/p>\n<p>She said Andert had arrived with a white trailer earlier that week.<\/p>\n<p>She told investigators Andert said he had purchased the trailer online.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents say Andert later admitted having the trailer when contacted by a detective.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities also allege he admitted burning merchandise that had been stored inside.<\/p>\n<p>Andert returned the trailer to law enforcement on Saturday, Aug. 8.<\/p>\n<h2>Honor Flight Says September Trip Will Continue<\/h2>\n<p>Honor Flight board member Susie Schroeder thanked law enforcement and the community for their support.<\/p>\n<p>She said the organization lost its merchandise and will need to replace those items.<\/p>\n<p>However, the loss will not cancel the group&#8217;s planned September Honor Flight.<\/p>\n<p>Veterans Honor Flight ND\/MN takes area veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit military memorials.<\/p>\n<p>People wishing to help can donate through the <a href=\"https:\/\/veteranshonorflightofndmn.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Veterans Honor Flight ND\/MN website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Andert Appears in Court<\/h2>\n<p>Andert made his first court appearance Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He remained in the Clay County Jail following that appearance.<\/p>\n<p>Bail was set at $20,000 without conditions, according to Clay County Attorney Brian Melton.<\/p>\n<p>Bail was also set at $2,000 with several conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Those conditions include remaining law-abiding, staying in Minnesota, and attending future court hearings.<\/p>\n<p>The charges remain allegations unless proven in court.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Adrian Cole reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copyright 2026 TRF News.
