Motorcycle Strikes Deer Near Lead<\/h2>\n
A motorcycle struck a deer shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday near Lead.<\/p>\n
The 2016 Harley-Davidson was traveling south on U.S. Highway 385.<\/p>\n
The crash happened about four miles southeast of Lead.<\/p>\n
A 51-year-old man was driving the motorcycle.<\/p>\n
A 51-year-old woman was riding as a passenger.<\/p>\n
Both suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.<\/p>\n
They were taken to a hospital in Deadwood for treatment.<\/p>\n
Crash Near Hermosa Injures Passenger<\/h2>\n
Another crash happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. north of Hermosa.<\/p>\n
A Chevrolet Trax turned north onto South Dakota Highway 79 from Gumbo Lilly Lane.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the vehicle slowed because a pedestrian was in the roadway.<\/p>\n
A northbound Jeep Wrangler tried to avoid the Trax.<\/p>\n
The Jeep then struck the rear of the Trax.<\/p>\n
A 69-year-old woman riding in the Trax suffered minor injuries.<\/p>\n
Motorcyclist Hurt Near Hill City<\/h2>\n
A third crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. near Hill City.<\/p>\n
A Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling west on U.S. Highway 16.<\/p>\n
Authorities said a Pontiac LeMans crossed the highway from Reno Gulch Road.<\/p>\n
The Pontiac failed to yield, according to the Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n
The motorcycle struck the car.<\/p>\n
The 32-year-old rider was thrown from the motorcycle.<\/p>\n
He was wearing a helmet.<\/p>\n
He was taken to a Rapid City hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
The 77-year-old Pontiac driver was not injured.<\/p>\n
Two Riders Injured in Rapid City<\/h2>\n
A fourth crash happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. in Rapid City.<\/p>\n
A Harley-Davidson was traveling west on Tatanka Road.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the motorcycle failed to yield near Deadwood Avenue.<\/p>\n
The motorcycle then struck the driver’s side of an SUV.<\/p>\n
The 50-year-old motorcycle driver and 53-year-old passenger were injured.<\/p>\n
Both were taken to a Rapid City hospital.<\/p>\n
The SUV driver was not injured.<\/p>\n
DUI Arrests and Citations Increase<\/h2>\n
Highway Patrol figures also show 40 DUI arrests through two reporting days.<\/p>\n
That compares with 38 arrests during the same reporting period in 2025.<\/p>\n
Troopers also recorded 1,918 traffic stops and criminal contacts.<\/p>\n
About 36% resulted in citations instead of warnings.<\/p>\n
