Waubun Man Gets 6 Years for Fatal Crash<\/h2>\n

BECKER COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 A rural Waubun man received six years in prison after a deadly motorcycle crash near Toad Lake.<\/p>\n

Jacob Jerome Riggle, 27, was sentenced in Becker County District Court<\/a> on one felony count. The charge was criminal vehicular homicide involving alcohol.<\/p>\n

A second criminal vehicular homicide count was dismissed under a plea agreement.<\/p>\n

Crash Near Toad Lake<\/h2>\n

The crash happened around 8:20 p.m. on May 26, 2025. Deputies responded near County Highway 56 and County Road 117 in Toad Lake Township.<\/p>\n

Asia Monique Bevins, 23, of Ogema, was a passenger on the motorcycle. Court records said she was found in a swamp near the crash scene.<\/p>\n

Bevins was not alert and appeared to be vomiting. She suffered life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

A medical helicopter took Bevins to Sanford Medical Center Fargo<\/a>. Authorities learned on June 13, 2025, that she had died.<\/p>\n

Alcohol Test Reported<\/h2>\n

Court records said Riggle smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. He told investigators he drank three beers and two shots earlier.<\/p>\n

A preliminary breath test raised concerns about how he used the testing straw. A manual reading later showed a 0.138% alcohol concentration.<\/p>\n

Minnesota law<\/a> sets the standard driving limit at 0.08%. A blood sample was also collected for laboratory testing.<\/p>\n

The sample was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension<\/a>. The agency provides forensic testing for criminal investigations across Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Sentence Includes Prison Time<\/h2>\n

On July 20, a Becker County judge sentenced Riggle to six years in prison. He received credit for 80 days already served in jail.<\/p>\n

The sentence calls for Riggle to serve his prison term in St. Cloud. He was also ordered to pay a $50 fine.<\/p>\n

Court fees added another $85. The money may be taken from earnings he receives while in prison.<\/p>\n

The criminal complaint noted a prior DWI conviction from 2020. It also listed pending drug possession and DWI charges in Becker County.<\/p>\n

Pending charges are allegations and do not prove guilt. Those cases remain separate from this conviction.<\/p>\n
