Detroit Lakes Man Charged After DWI Arrest<\/h2>\n

DETROIT LAKES<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Pelican Rapids man faces two charges after an early morning arrest in Detroit Lakes.<\/p>\n

Rayn Justin Jacobson, 28, is charged in Becker County District Court.<\/p>\n

The charges include third-degree driving while impaired for refusing chemical testing. That charge is a gross misdemeanor.<\/p>\n

Jacobson also faces felony fourth-degree assault involving a correctional employee.<\/p>\n

The allegations were filed in Becker County court. They have not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n

Man Found Unresponsive in Pickup<\/h2>\n

Police responded to the Circle K in Detroit Lakes around 1:57 a.m. on July 3.<\/p>\n

A caller reported a man passed out behind the wheel of a blue Ford pickup.<\/p>\n

An officer found Jacobson asleep in the driver\u2019s seat, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Jacobson reportedly had difficulty staying awake and spoke very little.<\/p>\n

The complaint states his eyes appeared glossy and bloodshot. He was also sweating.<\/p>\n

Jacobson was unsteady when he left the vehicle, the complaint said.<\/p>\n

Police reported several possible signs of impairment during field sobriety tests.<\/p>\n

Chemical Test Allegedly Refused<\/h2>\n

Police offered Jacobson a preliminary breath test during the investigation.<\/p>\n

The complaint states he delayed the test and was then arrested.<\/p>\n

Jacobson allegedly struggled, kicked, and attempted to fight officers during the arrest.<\/p>\n

Officers used leg restraints before taking him to a local emergency room.<\/p>\n

A judge later approved a warrant for a blood or urine sample.<\/p>\n

Medical workers and law enforcement attempted to collect the sample.<\/p>\n

Jacobson allegedly yelled, used profanity, and refused to cooperate.<\/p>\n

Authorities determined that he refused the court-authorized chemical test.<\/p>\n

Assault Alleged at County Jail<\/h2>\n

Jacobson was taken to the Becker County jail after leaving the hospital.<\/p>\n

At the jail, he allegedly swung several times at a correctional officer.<\/p>\n

The complaint states the officer suffered facial redness and a cut.<\/p>\n

The officer\u2019s glasses were also broken during the reported incident.<\/p>\n

The felony assault charge carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison.<\/p>\n

It also carries a possible $4,000 fine, or both penalties.<\/p>\n

The DWI test-refusal charge carries up to 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n

That charge also carries a possible $3,000 fine.<\/p>\n
