Court records filed in Clearwater County allege the driver later admitted he provided his brother&#8217;s name in an effort to avoid arrest on outstanding warrants.<\/p>\n<h2>Traffic Stop Leads to Criminal Charges<\/h2>\n<p>According to the criminal complaint, the incident happened on July 10, 2026, at about 7:23 p.m. A vehicle was stopped after authorities observed an inoperable brake light.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents state the driver was also seen with a small child sitting on his lap while the vehicle was moving. During the stop, the driver reportedly told authorities he did not have a driver&#8217;s license and had never obtained one.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities allege the driver identified himself as &#8220;Dayton Robert Nelson&#8221; and gave a date of birth that did not match available records. After further investigation, the driver admitted his true identity was <strong>Wendell Roy Cloud, 23, of Bagley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Defendant Allegedly Admitted Providing Brother&#8217;s Name<\/h2>\n<p>According to the complaint, Wendell Roy Cloud admitted he knowingly provided his brother&#8217;s name because he had active warrants. Court records state he also acknowledged his Minnesota driver&#8217;s license had been revoked following a previous DWI conviction.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators allege Cloud said he would have attempted to flee if children had not been inside the vehicle. Authorities also reported he acknowledged outstanding warrants from Clearwater and Red Lake counties and pending charges in Becker County.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin: 30px 0;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 350px; width: 146px; height: 207px;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/CLOUD-WENDELL.jpg\" alt=\"Wendell Roy Cloud Mugshot\" \/><em>Wendell Roy Cloud<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Charges Filed<\/h2>\n<p>Cloud has been charged in Clearwater County District Court with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Giving a Peace Officer the False Name of Another<\/strong>, a gross misdemeanor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Driving After Revocation<\/strong>, a misdemeanor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The complaint alleges Cloud intentionally gave another person&#8217;s name and birth date to obstruct a lawful investigation. Prosecutors also allege he knowingly operated a motor vehicle while his driving privileges were revoked.<\/p>\n<h2>Court Process Continues<\/h2>\n<p>The charges remain allegations.
