Thief River Falls<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Michael Charles Jordan, known to many as Mike, died Dec. 16, 2025. He was 80. His family said he died in rural Thief River Falls, Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Early life and education<\/h2>\n

Jordan was born on March 6, 1945, in South Bend, Indiana.<\/p>\n

He grew up in rural Indiana, his family said.<\/p>\n

He lost his father early in life.<\/p>\n

His mother raised Mike and his brother, Lee Jordan.<\/p>\n

His family said he developed a love for the outdoors as a boy.<\/p>\n

Jordan graduated from Culver Military Academy<\/a> in 1964.<\/p>\n

He later studied finance at Indiana University<\/a>, his family said.<\/p>\n

Military service<\/h2>\n

Jordan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, according to his family.<\/p>\n

They said he served in Laos and Cambodia.<\/p>\n

He was discharged in 1967.<\/p>\n

Career in finance<\/h2>\n

After school, Jordan worked as a stockbroker in Chicago.<\/p>\n

His family said he later started his own investment firm.<\/p>\n

He founded Polar Investment Counsel in Thief River Falls.<\/p>\n

His wife, Sherry Abbott, worked with him in the business.<\/p>\n

Family members said he had a calm style and strong focus.<\/p>\n

They said he often helped people understand money choices.<\/p>\n

Flying, outdoors, and family time<\/h2>\n

Jordan earned a pilot’s license, his family said.<\/p>\n

They said he flew to business meetings at times.<\/p>\n

They said he also flew his mother to visit relatives.<\/p>\n

He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips in Canada.<\/p>\n

His family said he often traveled with Sherry Abbott and their son, Andrew Abbott.<\/p>\n

They said he also enjoyed ballistics and precision work.<\/p>\n

His family said he and Andrew started Abbott Ammo.<\/p>\n

They said the company made ammunition as a family project.<\/p>\n

His family said Jordan valued private time and close bonds.<\/p>\n

They said he enjoyed travel, including a Virgin Islands trip for a niece\u2019s wedding.<\/p>\n

Survivors<\/h2>\n

Jordan is survived by his wife, Sherry Abbott.<\/p>\n

He is also survived by his son, Andrew Abbott.<\/p>\n

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Lee (Nancy) Jordan.<\/p>\n

He is survived by nieces Jackie (Chris) Gallo and Laura (Stephen) Catherwood.<\/p>\n

Other survivors include grandchildren Anna and David Gallo.<\/p>\n

He is also survived by Ella and James Catherwood.<\/p>\n

Those who died before him<\/h2>\n

Jordan was preceded in death by Charles William Jordan and Esme (Schacht) Jordan.<\/p>\n

He was also preceded in death by his half-brother, Charles \u201cCharlie\u201d North.<\/p>\n
