Moorhead Man Charged in Alleged Strangulation Case<\/h2>\n

Moorhead, MN<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Moorhead man is facing criminal charges after authorities say a family dispute turned into an alleged physical assault.<\/p>\n

Dustin Wayne Nass, 42, of Moorhead, has been charged in Clay County District Court with domestic assault and domestic assault by strangulation.<\/p>\n

The case was filed in Minnesota\u2019s 7th Judicial District Court. Court records show the charges stem from an incident reported on July 3, 2026.<\/p>\n

Charges Filed in Clay County Court<\/h2>\n

Nass faces one misdemeanor count of domestic assault. The charge alleges he committed an act intended to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death.<\/p>\n

He also faces a felony charge of domestic assault by strangulation. That charge alleges he restricted the normal breathing or blood circulation of another person.<\/p>\n

According to court documents, the maximum penalty for the felony charge could include up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.<\/p>\n

Alleged Incident in Moorhead<\/h2>\n

According to the criminal complaint, authorities responded to a reported assault at a Moorhead home.<\/p>\n

Investigators spoke with a 16-year-old boy who reported an incident involving his stepfather, Dustin Nass.<\/p>\n

The complaint states that a verbal argument became physical. Authorities allege Nass shoved the juvenile in the chest with both hands.<\/p>\n

The complaint also alleges Nass slapped the juvenile in the face during the confrontation.<\/p>\n

The juvenile reportedly fought back before Nass allegedly placed him in a chokehold.<\/p>\n

The juvenile told authorities that his breathing became restricted. He reported feeling like he might lose consciousness.<\/p>\n

Evidence Cited by Investigators<\/h2>\n

The complaint states authorities observed redness on the juvenile\u2019s neck after the incident.<\/p>\n

Investigators also reported seeing petechia near the juvenile\u2019s eye. Court documents state this can be linked to broken blood vessels.<\/p>\n

The complaint says video footage of the incident supports the juvenile\u2019s account.<\/p>\n

All charges are allegations. Nass is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
