Waubun Driver Charged in Interlock Case<\/h2>\n

WAUBUN, Minn.<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Mora woman faces a gross misdemeanor charge following a March traffic stop near Waubun.<\/p>\n

Maisie Ann Sargent, 36, was charged in Mahnomen County District Court. The complaint alleges she drove a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device.<\/p>\n

The alleged offense happened on March 18, 2026, along U.S. Highway 59 in rural Waubun.<\/p>\n

Traffic Stop Leads to Charge<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, a law enforcement officer noticed a Ford traveling without a front license plate.<\/p>\n

The vehicle also allegedly had a loud exhaust system. The officer then started a traffic stop.<\/p>\n

Sargent was identified as the driver, according to the court filing.<\/p>\n

The complaint states that Sargent had an ignition interlock restriction on her driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n

However, the Ford allegedly did not have an ignition interlock device installed.<\/p>\n

Gross Misdemeanor Alleged<\/h2>\n

Sargent is charged under Minnesota\u2019s ignition interlock law.<\/p>\n

The complaint lists the offense as a gross misdemeanor. A conviction could carry up to 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n

The maximum fine is $3,000. A court could also impose both possible penalties.<\/p>\n

An ignition interlock device tests a driver\u2019s breath before a vehicle can start.<\/p>\n

The device can prevent the engine from starting when alcohol is detected.<\/p>\n
