Woman Faces Two Charges<\/h2>\n
According to a criminal complaint filed in Mahnomen County District Court, Laura Lee Thompson, 24, of Bagley<\/strong>, has been charged with fourth-degree assault against a peace officer, a gross misdemeanor, and fleeing a peace officer on foot, a misdemeanor.<\/p>\n The charges stem from an incident on June 1, 2025. Court records state that authorities were responding to a report involving a suicidal individual believed to be in the area of Blair Road.<\/p>\n When deputies arrived, they found that the people inside a parked vehicle were not the people they were searching for. A third person was seen walking away toward a wooded area.<\/p>\n According to the complaint, the woman identified herself only as “Jordan.” She reportedly gave conflicting answers about why she was at the property.<\/p>\n Investigators say they recognized the woman as Laura Lee Thompson because they were familiar with her from previous warrant information.<\/p>\n Court documents state Thompson allegedly had seven active Mahnomen County warrants at the time.<\/p>\n Authorities say she refused to provide complete identifying information and acted in an evasive manner during questioning.<\/p>\n According to prosecutors, officers directed Thompson to return to the front of the residence.<\/p>\n Instead, authorities say she ran into nearby woods.<\/p>\n The complaint alleges that an officer caught up with Thompson and attempted to detain her.<\/p>\n During the struggle, prosecutors claim Thompson punched and kicked the officer several times.<\/p>\n The alleged assault occurred while officers were attempting to arrest Thompson on the outstanding warrants.<\/p>\n Witnesses nearby reported hearing calls for help and ran toward the wooded area.<\/p>\n According to the complaint, they saw Thompson striking the officer before she broke free.<\/p>\n Authorities say Thompson escaped deeper into the woods after slipping away during the struggle.<\/p>\n The complaint states that officers from neighboring Becker County later located Thompson in the area.<\/p>\n However, thick woods and difficult terrain prevented officers from taking her into custody.<\/p>\n Despite several searches, authorities were unable to locate her that day.<\/p>\n The criminal complaint later resulted in charges being filed in Mahnomen County District Court.<\/p>\n The assault charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both if convicted.<\/p>\n The fleeing charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations.
