He also faces a charge for failing to provide proof of insurance.<\/p>\n<p>The first charge is a gross misdemeanor. It carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail.<\/p>\n<p>The charge also carries a possible fine of up to $3,000.<\/p>\n<p>The insurance charge is a misdemeanor. It carries a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail.<\/p>\n<p>That charge also carries a possible fine of up to $1,000.<\/p>\n<h2>Traffic Stop in Detroit Lakes<\/h2>\n<p>The case began at about 2:02 a.m. on May 21, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>A Becker County deputy saw a gray Ford F-150 enter Long Bridge Road.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says the deputy had previously encountered the truck in April 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Records showed the truck\u2019s registration had expired on April 26, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The truck was still displaying blue registration tabs from 2023, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The deputy stopped the truck and identified Heinsius as its driver and owner.<\/p>\n<p>Heinsius reportedly said he had driven the truck since 2016.<\/p>\n<h2>Charges Filed in Becker County<\/h2>\n<p>Prosecutors allege Heinsius delayed or failed to properly register the truck.<\/p>\n<p>They claim the conduct was intended to avoid a motor vehicle tax, fee, or lien.<\/p>\n<p>The charge was filed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/168.35\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 168.35<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The law covers intentionally avoiding motor vehicle taxes through registration violations.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also alleges Heinsius lacked proof of active insurance during the stop.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota drivers must provide proof of coverage when an officer requests it.<\/p>\n<p>That requirement appears in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/169.791\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 169.791<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The case was filed in Minnesota\u2019s Seventh Judicial District under court file 03-CR-26-1045.<\/p>\n<p>The allegations in the complaint have not been proven in court.<\/p>\n<p>Heinsius is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Adrian Cole, reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<footer><strong>Copyright 2026 TRF News.
