Bemidji Squad Car Strikes Pedestrian<\/h2>\n

BEMIDJI, Minn.<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A police squad car struck a pedestrian early Wednesday in Bemidji.<\/p>\n

The crash happened near Irvine Avenue and 18th Street Northwest.<\/p>\n

The Minnesota State Patrol<\/a> reported the collision at about 1:12 a.m. on July 15, 2026.<\/p>\n

A Bemidji Police Department officer was driving north on Irvine Avenue before the crash.<\/p>\n

The officer was conducting follow-up work connected to an earlier case.<\/p>\n

Officials said the squad car was operating in normal, non-emergency mode.<\/p>\n

Pedestrian Seriously Injured<\/h2>\n

The squad car struck Michael Anthony Brown, 36, of Duluth.<\/p>\n

Authorities said Brown was in or near the middle of the roadway.<\/p>\n

Police also reported that Brown was wearing dark clothing at the time.<\/p>\n

The officer and other emergency workers gave Brown immediate medical care.<\/p>\n

Brown was taken to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The State Patrol listed his injuries as life-threatening.<\/p>\n

Officer Was Not Injured<\/h2>\n

The officer was driving a 2021 Ford Explorer owned by the Bemidji Police Department.<\/p>\n

The officer was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.<\/p>\n

The vehicle\u2019s airbag did not deploy during the collision.<\/p>\n

The State Patrol said alcohol was not suspected for the officer.<\/p>\n

The preliminary report said alcohol was suspected for Brown.<\/p>\n

That finding remains part of an active investigation and is not a final determination.<\/p>\n

State Patrol Investigating<\/h2>\n

The road was dry when the crash happened.<\/p>\n

Bemidji police, firefighters, ambulance crews, and the Beltrami County Sheriff\u2019s Office responded.<\/p>\n

The Minnesota State Patrol is leading the investigation.<\/p>\n

Officials have not released more details about what led to the collision.<\/p>\n

The investigation remains open. Additional information may be released after investigators complete their review.<\/p>\n
