Mahnomen Man Charged After Vehicle and Foot Chase<\/h2>\n

MAHNOMEN, Minn.<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Mahnomen man faces three charges after an alleged vehicle and foot chase on June 7.<\/p>\n

Court records identify the defendant as Aaron James Goodwin Sr., 42, of Mahnomen.<\/p>\n

Goodwin is charged with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle. He also faces gross misdemeanor DWI and misdemeanor fleeing on foot.<\/p>\n

Complaint Details Alleged Pursuit<\/h2>\n

The complaint says an officer saw Goodwin driving in Mahnomen at about 7:36 p.m. The officer knew Goodwin had active felony warrants.<\/p>\n

The officer turned around and activated emergency lights and a siren. Goodwin allegedly passed another vehicle at a high rate of speed.<\/p>\n

He then drove to his mother\u2019s home, stopped, and ran inside. The complaint says he left through a back door before officers found him.<\/p>\n

Officers searched the home but did not locate Goodwin. Authorities later found him about one-half mile away.<\/p>\n

Arrest Near Tribal College<\/h2>\n

A deputy saw Goodwin walking near a tree line behind White Earth Tribal College. He allegedly ducked behind a garbage bin as the deputy approached.<\/p>\n

The deputy ordered Goodwin to raise his hands. The complaint says he walked forward while throwing items from his pockets.<\/p>\n

Goodwin allegedly picked up a small medicine bottle and drank from it. The bottle was later identified as containing methadone.<\/p>\n

He was then handcuffed and taken into custody. Officers also reported finding hypodermic needles and unused tin foil.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Goodwin had glossy eyes and spoke rapidly. At the sheriff\u2019s office, he admitted using methamphetamine the previous morning.<\/p>\n

A judge approved a search warrant for a blood or urine sample. Goodwin provided a urine sample, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Charges and Possible Penalties<\/h2>\n

The felony fleeing charge carries up to three years and one day in prison. It also carries a possible $5,000 fine.<\/p>\n

The DWI charge carries up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine. Prosecutors cited a prior DWI test-refusal conviction.<\/p>\n

The misdemeanor fleeing charge carries up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.<\/p>\n

The charges are allegations. Goodwin is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
