Prosecutors filed the complaint on June 29 in Clay County District Court<\/a>.<\/p>\n Each count carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years. Each also carries a possible $10,000 fine.<\/p>\n The investigation began when Moorhead investigators received a cyber tip on May 29.<\/p>\n The tip came through the Minnesota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force<\/a>.<\/p>\n It was first reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children<\/a>.<\/p>\n Court records say the tip identified possible illegal material connected to online accounts and phone numbers.<\/p>\n Investigators traced one Google account to Wali, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n Records and an earlier police contact linked Wali to a home on 37th Avenue South.<\/p>\n A judge approved a search warrant on June 16. Officers served the warrant on June 18.<\/p>\n Police stopped Wali as he left the residence. They seized a smartphone from his vehicle.<\/p>\n Other investigators searched the home at the same time.<\/p>\n Wali agreed to speak after receiving a Miranda warning, the complaint states.<\/p>\n He said he received some illegal material through Telegram two or three years earlier.<\/p>\n Wali suggested the files may have moved when he changed phones.<\/p>\n He also reported receiving a Google notice about detected child sexual abuse material.<\/p>\n Google later banned the account, according to his statement in the complaint.<\/p>\n Wali denied viewing the files for sexual purposes.<\/p>\n A forensic examination found 34 videos and five images, investigators reported.<\/p>\n The files showed alleged sexual abuse involving young children, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n Investigators listed upload dates from March 21 through May 4, 2026.<\/p>\n The complaint does not identify which 10 files support the individual felony counts.<\/p>\n Investigators also reported activity on Wali\u2019s Telegram account after the search.<\/p>\n Someone remotely entered the account and deleted several message threads and groups, the complaint states.<\/p>\n The filing does not identify who deleted those messages.<\/p>\n Wali was booked into the Clay County Correctional Facility<\/a>.<\/p>\n He made his first court appearance on June 30.<\/p>\n The charges are allegations.
