East Grand Forks Motel Threats Lead to Felonies<\/h2>\n

East Grand Forks<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A New York man faces two felony charges following an alleged motel disturbance.<\/p>\n

Matthew Dylan Calla, 23, of Riverhead, New York, was charged Monday in Polk County District Court.<\/p>\n

Calla faces two felony counts of threats of violence. Each charge carries up to five years in prison.<\/p>\n

Each count also carries a possible $10,000 fine. The charges remain allegations and do not prove guilt.<\/p>\n

Two 911 Calls Reported<\/h2>\n

According to the criminal complaint, Calla first called 911 around 11:16 a.m. on June 26.<\/p>\n

He reportedly said he feared a bear attack after hearing growling during the previous night.<\/p>\n

Calla also believed he was speaking through a walkie-talkie, the complaint states.<\/p>\n

Police responded to the Plaza Motel, spoke with Calla, and then cleared the scene.<\/p>\n

Less than 90 minutes later, Calla allegedly called 911 again.<\/p>\n

He demanded a spare room key and warned that a \u201cblood bath\u201d would occur, according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n

He also reportedly told dispatchers he planned to buy a shotgun from Bass Pro Shops<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Motel Workers Report Threats<\/h2>\n

A motel employee approached police when officers returned, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The employee appeared shaken and described threats involving a baseball bat.<\/p>\n

She said Calla threatened to kill her and other motel workers.<\/p>\n

The motel owner\u2019s son also reported receiving a threat, according to court records.<\/p>\n

Calla allegedly threatened to retrieve a bat and strike him in the head.<\/p>\n

The complaint also says Calla shoved a door with enough force to damage it.<\/p>\n

Calla later told police he became \u201camped up\u201d and apologized.<\/p>\n

He admitted threatening a man with a bat but denied threatening the female employee.<\/p>\n

Held Pending Court Proceedings<\/h2>\n

After the arrest, Calla allegedly made another threatening gesture toward the employee.<\/p>\n

During transport, he yelled and made another alarming statement, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

Calla remains held under a detention order pending further court proceedings.<\/p>\n

No bail amount was listed in the complaint. He was also trespassed from the Plaza Motel.<\/p>\n
