Mahnomen Man Charged in Domestic Assault Case<\/h2>\n

Mahnomen County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Mahnomen man faces a gross misdemeanor domestic assault charge after an alleged October incident.<\/p>\n

Sean Perry Sargent was charged in Mahnomen County District Court. The complaint lists the offense date as October 14, 2025.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors charged Sargent with domestic assault involving a later violation. The charge falls under Minnesota Statute 609.2242<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Woman Reported Being Kicked<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, law enforcement responded after receiving an assault report. The alleged victim had gone to a nearby home.<\/p>\n

She told a deputy that Sargent, her brother, kicked her in the stomach. She said the incident happened at their mother\u2019s home.<\/p>\n

The woman said she had been sleeping before the alleged assault. She then left the home to seek help.<\/p>\n

She first went to a neighbor and asked someone to call the police. That neighbor refused to help, the complaint says.<\/p>\n

Neighbor Described Request for Help<\/h2>\n

The first neighbor later spoke with law enforcement. He said the woman pounded on his door.<\/p>\n

He also said she asked someone to call the police. The neighbor said he became upset and ordered her to leave.<\/p>\n

He admitted shoving her backward before closing the door, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

The woman then went to another nearby home. Someone there contacted law enforcement, the complaint states.<\/p>\n

Prior Conviction Cited in Charge<\/h2>\n

The complaint cites a previous domestic assault conviction involving Sargent. That case was filed in Mahnomen County in 2020.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege the earlier conviction raises the new charge to a gross misdemeanor.<\/p>\n

The charge carries a maximum sentence of 364 days. A court could also impose a fine of up to $3,000.<\/p>\n

A judge may order both jail time and a fine if Sargent is convicted.<\/p>\n
