Jennifer Stevens, 37, was charged in Becker County District Court.

She faces felony domestic assault and second-degree DWI with test refusal.

Stevens also faces three counts of assaulting a peace officer.

The charges stem from an incident reported on June 23 on County Highway 35.

Argument Allegedly Led to Crash

Deputies responded at about 8:17 p.m. after receiving a crash report.

The driver said Stevens was sitting in the front passenger seat.

He told investigators they began arguing while traveling through Ponsford.

Stevens allegedly grabbed the steering wheel and pushed it toward the south ditch.

The vehicle left the roadway and struck trees about 75 yards from the highway.

The driver suffered a swollen lip, according to the criminal complaint.

Deputies later found Stevens walking along the road.

They reported smelling alcohol and seeing a small cut on her face.

Breath Test Refused at Jail

Stevens was taken into custody and transported to the Becker County Jail.

She refused to provide a breath sample, the complaint states.

Stevens reportedly told officers that she had not been driving.

Authorities then decided she needed medical clearance at a hospital.

<figure placed a wet hand against the deputy’s cheek.

She also made a derogatory comment, according to the complaint.

Hospital workers later attempted to collect blood for medical testing.

Stevens allegedly resisted and kicked another officer in the leg.

Prior Cases Listed in Complaint

The complaint lists two DWI convictions during the previous ten years.

Those convictions occurred in April 2021 and February 2023.

It also lists three prior domestic violence-related cases.

One involved a domestic assault matter from October 2025.

Possible Penalties

Felony domestic assault carries up to five years in prison.

It also carries a possible fine of $10,000.

The bodily-fluid assault
