Gary Woman Faces 3 Felonies in Bad Check Case<\/h2>\n

Gary, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>)<\/strong> \u2014 A Gary woman faces three felony charges involving dishonored checks, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n

Kelsey Rae Wastweet, 36, was charged June 15 in Polk County District Court.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors filed three counts of felony issuance of dishonored checks.<\/p>\n

The charges involve a Sacred Heart school fundraiser and a sports equipment company.<\/p>\n

Fundraiser Checks Returned<\/h2>\n

The complaint says Wastweet wrote two checks to the RaiseRight gift card fundraiser<\/a> during the summer of 2025.<\/p>\n

The first check was dated July 22, 2025, and totaled $996.<\/p>\n

The second check was dated July 30 and totaled $9,750.<\/p>\n

Both checks were returned with the message \u201cunable to locate account,\u201d according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

RaiseRight also reported two online gift card orders placed on August 6, 2025.<\/p>\n

Those orders totaled $8,400.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the BankMobile account used for the checks had already been closed.<\/p>\n

Records showed Wastweet had two BankMobile accounts.<\/p>\n

Both accounts were closed for fraud in July 2018, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Investigators also found about $80,000 in attempted transactions involving the closed account.<\/p>\n

Sports Apparel Purchase Investigated<\/h2>\n

A separate check was reported in early 2026, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Investigators said Wastweet ordered customized hockey apparel from Stinger Bat Co.<\/p>\n

The purchase was made on February 11, 2026.<\/p>\n

She allegedly wrote a check for $1,929.95 from the same closed BankMobile account.<\/p>\n

The company had not received payment as of June 11, 2026, the complaint states.<\/p>\n

Court Appearance and Possible Penalties<\/h2>\n

Each felony count carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.<\/p>\n

Each count also carries a possible $10,000 fine. A judge may impose both penalties.<\/p>\n

A warrant was issued for Wastweet\u2019s arrest on June 15, 2026.<\/p>\n

She made her first court appearance on June 22, according to court records.<\/p>\n

The Minnesota Judicial Branch<\/a> provides information about the Polk County District Court.<\/p>\n

Earlier Fraud Conviction<\/h2>\n

Court records show Wastweet faced felony counterfeiting charges in North Dakota in October 2018.<\/p>\n

She was convicted on three counterfeiting counts in February 2019.<\/p>\n

The current charges are allegations. Wastweet is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
