The charge was filed in the Minnesota District Court in Polk County.<\/p>\n<p>The charge is listed as a felony under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.52\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota theft statutes<\/a>. The maximum penalty is five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n<h2>Vehicle Reported Missing In East Grand Forks<\/h2>\n<p>According to the complaint, police were called on December 26, 2025. The report came from a home on 14th Street NW in East Grand Forks.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle owner reported that his blue 2006 Honda Civic was missing. The car had a Minnesota license plate JLX923.<\/p>\n<p>The owner said he had parked the car on the street the night before. He said the vehicle was parked at about 8:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>He also told police the keys were left in the ignition. The complaint says that it was due to mechanical issues.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle was noticed missing at about 7:30 a.m. The owner said board games and a jacket were inside the car.<\/p>\n<h2>Car Found Across State Line<\/h2>\n<p>The complaint says the vehicle was later found in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It was located at O\u2019Reilly Auto Parts on Gateway Drive.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said the car had significant damage. She also allegedly said she had been drinking that day.<\/p>\n<p>According to the complaint, Schaan said she was in a crash at about 11:00 p.m. on December 25. She allegedly admitted to leaving the crash scene.<\/p>\n<p>She told police the vehicle later stalled. She said she walked home after leaving the car, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<h2>Crash Report Also Filed<\/h2>\n<p>On December 27, another person contacted East Grand Forks police. That person reported being involved in a crash with a blue Honda Civic.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says the driver of the Civic left before law enforcement was called.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators later spoke with Schaan\u2019s adoptive father. He said Schaan did not own a blue Honda Civic or any other vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also notes a pending case in North Dakota. That case includes allegations of criminal trespass and theft in Grand Forks County.<\/p>\n<p>Court records can be searched through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mncourts.gov\/Access-Case-Records.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Judicial Branch<\/a>.
