Nicholas Dean Rosebear, 31, of Bemidji, has been charged in Beltrami County District Court. The case is listed as Court File No. 04-CR-26-1248.<\/p>\n
The charges stem from an incident reported on May 29, 2026. According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Walmart in Bemidji at about 2:41 p.m.<\/p>\n
Store asset protection staff reported that two people were suspected of concealing items inside the store. Staff said Rosebear walked toward the self-checkout area and left without paying.<\/p>\n
Charges Filed In Beltrami County<\/h2>\n
Rosebear is charged with fifth-degree drug possession. The complaint says he allegedly possessed methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance.<\/p>\n
That felony charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. It also carries a possible $10,000 fine.<\/p>\n
Rosebear is also charged with giving a peace officer a false name. That gross misdemeanor carries a possible sentence of 364 days in jail. It also carries a possible $3,000 fine.<\/p>\n
A third count accuses Rosebear of misdemeanor theft. Prosecutors allege the property was valued at less than $500.<\/p>\n

According to the complaint, Rosebear first gave another person\u2019s name and date of birth. Investigators later identified him as Nicholas Dean Rosebear.<\/p>\n
The complaint states Rosebear admitted he gave the false name because he believed he had a warrant.<\/p>\n
Police confirmed an active warrant tied to a prior Beltrami County case. The complaint says the warrant followed a missed sentencing date on May 12, 2026.<\/p>\n
During a search after arrest, police reported finding a blue plastic case in Rosebear\u2019s pocket. The complaint says Rosebear admitted the case contained controlled substances.<\/p>\n
Investigators reported finding a small bag with a white crystalline substance. The complaint says the substance was suspected of being methamphetamine.<\/p>\n
Police later reported finding a tinfoil bindle with a white powdery substance. That substance was submitted for further testing.<\/p>\n
The suspected methamphetamine weighed about .72 grams, according to the complaint. Both substances were sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for testing.<\/p>\n
