The complaint says his license status was canceled as inimical to public safety.<\/p>\n<p>The charge stems from a May 20, 2026, traffic stop near Crookston.<\/p>\n<h2>Traffic Stop Near Crookston<\/h2>\n<p>According to court documents, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper saw a Dodge Durango traveling north on University Avenue in Crookston.<\/p>\n<p>A license plate check showed the vehicle was registered to Abney. The complaint says a records review showed Abney had a canceled driving status in Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says his license had been canceled on or around December 24, 2024. The status was listed as inimical to public safety.<\/p>\n<p>The trooper later stopped the Durango on U.S. Highway 2, near mile marker 19, in rural Polk County.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities allege Abney was driving the vehicle at the time of the stop.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px 0;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/ABNEY-JASON-WILLIAM-2.jpg\" alt=\"Mugshot of Jason William Abney\" \/><em>Jason William Abney<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Charge Filed In Polk County<\/h2>\n<p>Abney is charged with gross misdemeanor driving after cancellation, inimical to public safety.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint alleges Abney knew, or reasonably should have known, that his license was canceled.<\/p>\n<p>According to the complaint, Abney checked his license status online during the stop. The phone check showed he did not have a valid driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n<p>Abney was then arrested, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The charge was filed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/171.24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 171.24<\/a>. Court records list the case in Minnesota\u2019s 9th Judicial District.<\/p>\n<p>A gross misdemeanor in this case carries a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail. It also carries a possible $3,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n<p>The case is listed as court file number 60-CR-26-689.
