The charge is listed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/609.223\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 609.223<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The case was filed in Minnesota\u2019s 9th Judicial District. Court records list the file number as 11-CR-26-675. The call came from <a href=\"https:\/\/cedarlakescasino.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cedar Lakes Casino Hotel<\/a> in Cass Lake.<\/p>\n<p>Casino staff reported that a male victim had been assaulted by multiple people. The complaint says those people had left before officers arrived.<\/p>\n<p>The victim, identified in court records by initials, was being treated by emergency medical workers. The complaint says he had trouble breathing after the assault.<\/p>\n<h2>Witnesses Reported Hallway Attack<\/h2>\n<p>A witness told law enforcement she heard a disturbance in the hallway. She opened her room door and saw a male on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>The witness said the male was being kicked and punched. She yelled, and the people involved left down the hallway, the complaint says.<\/p>\n<p>The victim later told investigators he was staying at the hotel. He said he went to the second floor to visit a friend.<\/p>\n<p>While knocking on a door, the victim said a nearby door opened. He identified the man who came out as Izaiah Jaymes Graves.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says Graves allegedly began punching the victim. The victim fell to the floor, where he was kicked and punched.<\/p>\n<h2>Injuries Listed In Complaint<\/h2>\n<p>Medical records cited in the complaint say the victim suffered a broken cheekbone. The complaint also says he needed a chest tube.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators reported visible swelling and bruising to the victim\u2019s face and ribs.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement also reviewed the hallway video. The complaint says the video showed the victim approaching a hotel room and knocking.<\/p>\n<p>A nearby door then opened, and a male ran out. The complaint says the male struck the victim in the face.<\/p>\n<p>The video allegedly showed the victim falling to the ground. The complaint says he was then kicked and punched several times.<\/p>\n<h2>Defendant Spoke With Investigators<\/h2>\n<p>According to the complaint, Graves later met with investigators on April 7. He was told he was not in custody.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says Graves confirmed he was at the hotel. He also said he was involved in a hallway altercation.<\/p>\n<p>Graves allegedly said he made first contact after the victim said something to him. He also allegedly admitted kicking and stomping the victim.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says Graves told investigators he \u201ctook it too far.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A felony third-degree assault charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. It can also carry a $10,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n<p>A criminal complaint is not a conviction.
