Detroit Lakes Man Charged After Traffic Stop<\/h2>\n

Detroit Lakes<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Mahnomen man is facing charges in Becker County District Court after a traffic stop in Detroit Lakes.<\/p>\n

According to a criminal complaint filed in Becker County, Anton Delano Bailey is charged with intent to escape taxation. He also faces charges of failure to provide proof of insurance and driving after suspension.<\/p>\n

The case is filed in Minnesota\u2019s Seventh Judicial District. Court records list the court file number as 03-CR-26-836.<\/p>\n

Traffic Stop Reported In Detroit Lakes<\/h2>\n

The complaint says the stop happened on January 16, 2026, at about 10:17 p.m.<\/p>\n

A Becker County deputy was traveling north on U.S. Highway 59 near Minnesota Highway 34. The deputy reported seeing a vehicle go through a red traffic signal.<\/p>\n

The vehicle was then stopped in Detroit Lakes. The complaint says Bailey was identified as the driver.<\/p>\n

Authorities allege Bailey\u2019s driving privilege was suspended at the time. The complaint also says Bailey stated the vehicle was not insured.<\/p>\n

Registration And Insurance Allegations<\/h2>\n

Court documents allege Bailey had not transferred the title or registered a red Mercury in Minnesota.<\/p>\n

The complaint states Bailey had been warned about the issue before.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege Bailey delayed or neglected to properly list and register the vehicle. They claim this was done with intent to avoid taxes or fees.<\/p>\n

The gross misdemeanor charge falls under Minnesota Statute 168.35<\/a>. It carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $3,000 fine.<\/p>\n

The proof of insurance charge falls under Minnesota Statute 169.791<\/a>. It carries a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.<\/p>\n

The driving after suspension charge falls under Minnesota Statute 171.24<\/a>. It also carries a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.<\/p>\n

Warrant Listed In Complaint<\/h2>\n

The complaint is listed as a warrant case. It says Bailey was issued a citation and later failed to appear.<\/p>\n

Court documents also state Bailey has a history of failing to appear. They further allege he has a history of driving without a license.<\/p>\n
