Bemidji Man Charged In Canceled License Case<\/h2>\n

Bemidji<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Redby man is facing a gross misdemeanor charge in Beltrami County.<\/p>\n

Verlin Dale Kingbird Jr., 42, is charged with driving after cancellation. Court records say his license was canceled as inimical to public safety.<\/p>\n

The charge stems from an incident on May 20, 2026, in Bemidji. The case was filed in Beltrami County District Court.<\/p>\n

Walmart Call Led To Investigation<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, Bemidji police were called to Walmart around 8:42 p.m.<\/p>\n

The call involved a reported argument near a gold Dodge pickup truck.<\/p>\n

When officers arrived, people were leaving the area in several vehicles.<\/p>\n

Police saw a Ford Flex leaving toward Applebee\u2019s. A man in a white shirt was also seen walking that way.<\/p>\n

Officers then spoke with Michael Rainey, who was in the gold truck.<\/p>\n

Rainey told police his sister, Cheyenne Hindsley, was in the Ford Flex. He said the man walking was her boyfriend.<\/p>\n

Rainey said Hindsley had called him about her missing vehicle. She later found it at Walmart, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Complaint Says Video Showed Driving<\/h2>\n

Police later stopped the Ford Flex.<\/p>\n

Hindsley was identified as the driver. Kingbird was identified as the passenger.<\/p>\n

Hindsley denied that anything physical had happened. She told police she was upset about her vehicle being missing.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Hindsley had spoken with police earlier that evening.<\/p>\n

During that earlier call, she said Kingbird had been driving the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Police also reviewed the Walmart video.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the video showed Kingbird driving the Ford Flex.<\/p>\n

At the Beltrami County Jail, Kingbird was read his rights. He said he understood them.<\/p>\n

According to the complaint, Kingbird admitted driving between Walmart and Angel Nails.<\/p>\n

License Was Canceled, Complaint Says<\/h2>\n

A driving record check showed Kingbird\u2019s privileges were canceled on February 9, 2025.<\/p>\n

The cancellation remained in effect on the date of the alleged offense.<\/p>\n

The charge is listed under Minnesota Statute 171.24<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The offense carries a possible sentence of up to 364 days in jail. It also carries a possible fine of up to $3,000.<\/p>\n

The complaint also lists prior convictions in Kingbird\u2019s criminal history.<\/p>\n

Those include drug possession, DWI, theft, false name, failure to appear, and fleeing in a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n

The case is filed as Beltrami County Court File No. 04-CR-26-1160.<\/p>\n
