Roseau Woman Charged In Fatal Badger-Area Crash<\/h2>\n

Roseau County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Roseau woman is charged after a fatal crash near Badger, Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Shayleigh Jade McKay, 21, of Roseau, is named in a Roseau County District Court complaint.<\/p>\n

She faces one felony count of failing to stop after a collision involving injury or death.<\/p>\n

She also faces two gross misdemeanor DWI counts.<\/p>\n

The case is filed in Minnesota\u2019s 9th Judicial District under Court File No. 68-CR-26-280.<\/p>\n

Charges Filed After Fatal Crash<\/h2>\n

The complaint says the crash happened on or about May 7, 2026.<\/p>\n

Authorities said the incident happened near 420th Avenue and 290th Street in Roseau County.<\/p>\n

The felony count alleges McKay failed to stop at the scene.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the collision resulted in the death of another person.<\/p>\n

Under Minnesota Statute 169.09<\/a>, drivers must stop after certain collisions.<\/p>\n

According to the complaint, a red Kia was linked to the crash investigation.<\/p>\n

Authorities later stopped a red Kia near a residence east of Badger.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the vehicle was being driven without headlights or taillights.<\/p>\n

Authorities alleged McKay showed signs of impairment during the stop.<\/p>\n

The complaint says she had slow and slurred speech.<\/p>\n

It also says she appeared off balance while looking for her license.<\/p>\n

McKay allegedly admitted to drinking Captain Morgan rum that evening.<\/p>\n

The complaint says she later provided a breath test sample of .16 BAC.<\/p>\n

The DWI counts cite Minnesota Statute 169A.20<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The complaint also cites Minnesota Statute 169A.26<\/a> for the aggravating factor.<\/p>\n

Witnesses Describe Red Car<\/h2>\n

The complaint says Ashely Erickson and Casey Anderson lived near the crash scene.<\/p>\n

They reported seeing a red car with a loud exhaust.<\/p>\n

They said it turned onto 290th Street.<\/p>\n

They also reported it appeared to be racing a motorcycle.<\/p>\n

The witnesses said the car then braked hard and left shortly after.<\/p>\n

McKay later told authorities she had been at the scene, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

She said she asked a man in a white truck if he was okay.<\/p>\n

She also said she asked if law enforcement should be contacted.<\/p>\n

The complaint says McKay denied seeing an accident or a motorcycle.<\/p>\n
