Bemidji Man Charged After Assault Report<\/h2>\n

Bemidji<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Bemidji man is facing a felony domestic assault charge after a reported assault on May 20, 2026.<\/p>\n

Nathan Bruce Hunt, 42, of Bemidji, is charged in Beltrami County District Court. The case is filed under Court File No. 04-CR-26-1161.<\/p>\n

According to the complaint, Hunt is charged with felony domestic assault. He is also charged with fleeing a peace officer on foot and obstructing legal process.<\/p>\n

Reported Assault On Itasca Loop<\/h2>\n

The complaint says officers were called to 2510 Itasca Loop NW at about 3:12 a.m.<\/p>\n

A reported assault had taken place at the apartment building. Hunt had allegedly left the scene on foot.<\/p>\n

When officers arrived, they found the victim with significant facial injuries. Emergency medical services were requested.<\/p>\n

The victim told officers that Hunt struck her, according to the complaint. She also said he may have had a knife.<\/p>\n

A witness reported that the victim came to another apartment after the assault. The victim said she was scared.<\/p>\n

The witness also reported seeing Hunt outside the building. The complaint says he was yelling before walking away.<\/p>\n

Arrest Near Timber Ridge Apartments<\/h2>\n

Bystanders later reported Hunt\u2019s location near the Timber Ridge apartments.<\/p>\n

Officers found Hunt and told him he was under arrest, according to the complaint. Hunt allegedly ignored commands and walked away.<\/p>\n

The complaint says officers believed Hunt may have been armed. A Taser was used during the arrest.<\/p>\n

Hunt was taken into custody and transported to jail.<\/p>\n

At the jail, Hunt allegedly yelled while officers tried to read him his Miranda rights. He also allegedly kicked a squad car barrier.<\/p>\n

The complaint says he prevented officers from taking photos of scratches on his back.<\/p>\n

Charges And Possible Penalties<\/h2>\n

The felony domestic assault charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. It also carries a possible $10,000 fine.<\/p>\n

The two misdemeanor counts each carry a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail. Each also carries a possible $1,000 fine.<\/p>\n

The complaint cites Minnesota\u2019s domestic assault statute, Minnesota Statute 609.2242<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It also cites Minnesota Statute 609.487<\/a> for fleeing. The obstruction charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.50<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Hunt has two prior qualified domestic violence-related convictions within the last ten years.<\/p>\n

Those cases are listed as 29-CR-25-997 and 60-CR-22-15.<\/p>\n
