Terrebonne Township Chase Leads To Felony Charge<\/h2>\n

Terrebonne Township<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A North Dakota man is facing a felony charge in Red Lake County after a late-night pursuit on Memorial Day, according to a Minnesota court complaint.<\/p>\n

Jaren Sean Mattern, of Mohall, North Dakota, is charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle. The charge is listed as a felony under Minnesota Statute 609.487<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The complaint states the incident happened around 12:47 a.m. on May 25, 2026. A state trooper was traveling south on County Road 12 near State Highway 92 in Red Lake County.<\/p>\n

Traffic Stop Turns Into Pursuit<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, a northbound white Chevrolet Silverado appeared to be speeding. Radar showed the pickup traveling 65 mph in a 55 mph zone.<\/p>\n

The trooper turned around and caught up to the vehicle. The pickup slowed near County Road 12 and State Highway 92. It then signaled a right turn.<\/p>\n

The complaint says emergency lights were activated for a traffic stop. The pickup stopped at the intersection, then turned east onto State Highway 92.<\/p>\n

Authorities allege the vehicle then accelerated quickly and did not stop. The trooper activated a siren and began a pursuit.<\/p>\n

Speeds Reached Nearly 100 MPH<\/h2>\n

Court documents allege the pickup reached speeds above 80 mph. Radar later showed speeds between 93 mph and about 97 mph.<\/p>\n

The pursuit continued for about 1.5 miles. The vehicle then slowed and stopped along State Highway 92.<\/p>\n

Mattern was identified as the driver. He complied with commands and was taken into custody without incident.<\/p>\n

A passenger, identified as Paige Anna Schafer, was also in the vehicle. She was briefly detained and later released to a sober party.<\/p>\n

Schafer told authorities that she and Mattern had been at a concert. She also said Mattern saw the emergency lights. According to the complaint, she told him to stop.<\/p>\n

Alcohol Alleged In Court Filing<\/h2>\n

The complaint says troopers smelled alcohol on Mattern. A preliminary breath test later showed a result of 0.052 BAC.<\/p>\n

Authorities wrote that Mattern was not believed to be above the legal limit for impaired driving. However, he allegedly admitted to drinking before driving.<\/p>\n

During an interview, Mattern allegedly said he consumed about 1.5 to 2 sixteen-ounce beers. He also allegedly said he fled because he did not want to get in trouble.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Mattern later stopped because he did not want to endanger his passenger.<\/p>\n

The vehicle was inventoried and towed due to forfeiture requirements linked to fleeing cases. Mattern was transported to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center.<\/p>\n

Court records show the case was filed in Red Lake County District Court. A criminal complaint is only an accusation. Mattern is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
