He was also charged with third-degree driving while impaired.<\/p>\n<p>Both charges allege Sargent was under the influence of a controlled substance. The complaint says the incident happened on May 28, 2026, in Mahnomen.<\/p>\n<h2>Traffic Stop In Mahnomen<\/h2>\n<p>The complaint says a White Earth Police officer saw a vehicle leave an area known to law enforcement. The vehicle allegedly failed to stop before entering East Lincoln Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents say the vehicle then failed to stop at another stop sign. It also allegedly made a wide right turn into the oncoming lane.<\/p>\n<p>The officer followed the vehicle and reported it was moving very slowly. The vehicle later failed to stop behind another stop sign, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The driver also allegedly failed to signal at least 100 feet before turning. A traffic stop was then started on East Jefferson Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>The driver was identified as Gage Colin Sargent. They were also slow to react to light, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>The officer also reported that Sargent was sweating heavily. The complaint says Sargent had trouble following simple directions after the stop.<\/p>\n<p>Sargent told police he was taking Suboxone and Gabapentin, according to the complaint. He also said he normally wore glasses or contacts.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents say Sargent denied any physical problems. He allegedly swayed while standing during the stop.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says field sobriety tests were then given. Sargent allegedly started one test too early and missed heel-to-toe steps.<\/p>\n<p>During another test, he allegedly hopped, swayed, put his foot down, and used his arms for balance.<\/p>\n<h2>Vehicle Search And Blood Draw<\/h2>\n<p>During a vehicle search, police reported finding a sterile water tube top. They also reported finding a disassembled pen.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says the pen is commonly used for snorting narcotics. Police then arrested Sargent for driving while impaired.<\/p>\n<p>Sargent was taken to the Mahnomen County Sheriff\u2019s Office. A search warrant was later approved for a blood sample.<\/p>\n<p>Sargent agreed to provide the sample after receiving the warrant, according to the complaint. Two vials of blood were collected at Mahnomen Health Center.<\/p>\n<p>The case was filed in <a href=\"https:\/\/mncourts.gov\/find-courts\/mahnomen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mahnomen County District Court<\/a>. The court file number is 44-CR-26-305.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says Sargent had two prior DWI-related license losses within ten years. One was from 2020, and one was from 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Second-degree DWI and third-degree DWI are listed as gross misdemeanors under Minnesota law.
