Mahnomen Woman Charged After Star Mart Incident<\/h2>\n

Mahnomen County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) – A Detroit Lakes woman is facing one felony charge and two misdemeanor charges after an incident near Star Mart in Mahnomen.<\/p>\n

According to a Mahnomen County District Court complaint, Chantel Marie King was charged in court file 44-CR-26-301. The charges stem from an alleged incident on or about May 26, 2026.<\/p>\n

King is charged with felony threats of violence. She is also charged with fifth-degree assault and disorderly conduct. Those two charges are misdemeanors.<\/p>\n

The felony count carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. It also carries a possible $10,000 fine. More details on Minnesota\u2019s threats law are available from the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Complaint Details Star Mart Response<\/h2>\n

The complaint says deputies responded to Star Mart in Mahnomen. Casino security guards had detained an intoxicated woman at the scene.<\/p>\n

King was identified as the woman who was detained. The complaint says she had been seen passed out earlier that evening.<\/p>\n

Security staff reported that King later went into a family restroom with a male. The complaint says surveillance then showed the pair leaving the casino.<\/p>\n

Outside the casino, security reported seeing the male with his hand down King\u2019s pants. The complaint says King was passed out at the time.<\/p>\n

Security staff asked King whether she wanted to press charges. The complaint says she said no. Both people were then told to leave the property.<\/p>\n

Assault Allegation Involving a Security Guard<\/h2>\n

A short time later, King was found passed out in the grass near Star Mart. An ambulance was called due to welfare concerns.<\/p>\n

The complaint says King became aggressive toward the ambulance crew. Security staff reported that King then struck Kyle Klein in the face.<\/p>\n

Deputies reported seeing a mark on Klein\u2019s face. The complaint says surveillance video showed King walking with Klein before hitting him.<\/p>\n

Fifth-degree assault in Minnesota includes intentionally inflicting or attempting to inflict bodily harm. The statute can be viewed through the Minnesota Revisor of Statutes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hospital Disturbance Alleged<\/h2>\n

King was taken to Mahnomen County Hospital for medical clearance. The complaint says she kicked inside the squad vehicle during transport.<\/p>\n

Once inside the hospital, King allegedly swore at staff and caused a disturbance. The complaint says she also made threats toward a deputy.<\/p>\n
