Thief River Falls DWI Suspect Accused Of Fleeing<\/h2>\n

Thief River Falls<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Ronald Golden James Hoiland is facing several charges in Pennington County District Court.<\/p>\n

The case concerns an alleged early-morning traffic stop on May 2, 2026.<\/p>\n

Court documents say Hoiland is charged with felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle. He is also charged with second-degree driving while impaired.<\/p>\n

Additional charges include driving after revocation and failure to yield.<\/p>\n

Vehicle Allegedly Failed To Stop<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, officers were on patrol near 4th Street and Main Avenue.<\/p>\n

They reported seeing a white Ford Explorer pull onto Main Avenue.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the move forced a patrol vehicle to stop.<\/p>\n

Officers then followed the vehicle northbound on Main Avenue.<\/p>\n

The vehicle allegedly began veering toward the right side of the road.<\/p>\n

Emergency lights were activated near 6th Street and Main Avenue.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the vehicle did not stop.<\/p>\n

Officers then activated a siren as the vehicle turned onto 8th Street.<\/p>\n

The vehicle later turned northbound onto Labree Avenue.<\/p>\n

Court documents say it continued swerving and nearly hit a parked vehicle.<\/p>\n

Arrest Reported Near 13th Street<\/h2>\n

The complaint states that the vehicle entered a yard between 13th and 14th Streets.<\/p>\n

The driver opened the door and raised his hands, according to court records.<\/p>\n

He was later identified as Ronald Golden James Hoiland.<\/p>\n

Officers reported signs of impairment during contact with Hoiland.<\/p>\n

The complaint says he had poor balance and slurred speech.<\/p>\n

Officers also reported smelling alcohol.<\/p>\n

A mixed alcoholic drink was allegedly found in the vehicle\u2019s cup holder.<\/p>\n

Hoiland was taken to the Law Enforcement Center.<\/p>\n

He later agreed to some field sobriety testing, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Court documents say officers reported signs of impairment during those tests.<\/p>\n

Breath Test Allegedly Showed .22 BAC<\/h2>\n

The complaint says Hoiland was read the breath test advisory.<\/p>\n

He initially asked to speak with an attorney, according to court records.<\/p>\n

Documents say he later agreed to continue with the process.<\/p>\n

A breath test later showed a blood alcohol concentration of .22.<\/p>\n

The legal limit for most Minnesota drivers is .08.<\/p>\n

Authorities also reported that Hoiland had a revoked Minnesota driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n

The complaint says he had two prior DWI convictions within 10 years.<\/p>\n

The felony fleeing charge falls under Minnesota Statute 609.487<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The DWI charge refers to Minnesota Statute 169A.20<\/a> and Minnesota Statute 169A.25<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The driving after revocation charge refers to Minnesota Statute 171.24<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A criminal complaint is not a conviction.<\/p>\n

Hoiland is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
