Kyle Brennan Little, 38, is charged in Beltrami County District Court with two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.<\/p>\n
Each charge carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison. Each count also carries a possible $14,000 fine.<\/p>\n
The charges are filed under Minnesota Statute 609.222<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to the court complaint, police first responded to 409 Wood Avenue SE in Bemidji.<\/p>\n The call was for a camper fire with unknown people possibly inside.<\/p>\n Police reported heavy black smoke coming from the camper\u2019s windows and doors.<\/p>\n A reporting party told police that a friend usually stayed in the camper.<\/p>\n That person was not believed to be inside at the time.<\/p>\n After firefighters arrived, police heard a woman identified as A.J. say that a man had pulled a knife on her.<\/p>\n Police then learned that another person, identified as M.W.-J., claimed Little had stabbed him earlier.<\/p>\n The complaint says M.W.-J. had a puncture wound on his upper right shoulder.<\/p>\n The wound was not actively bleeding when police saw it.<\/p>\n However, police requested EMS to check the injury.<\/p>\n A.J. told police that Little confronted her in an alley behind the Wood Avenue SE address.<\/p>\n She said Little showed a knife and later followed her toward Starbucks.<\/p>\n A.J. said she ran across the street to get away from him.<\/p>\n She said Little did not grab her or block her movement.<\/p>\n However, she told police she feared him during the encounter.<\/p>\n M.W.-J. later told police he had been with Little earlier that day.<\/p>\n He said Little had been drinking and acting argumentative.<\/p>\n He also said the two had been involved in several disputes that day.<\/p>\n M.W.-J. said Little stabbed him inside the residence.<\/p>\n He described the knife as a folding knife or switchblade.<\/p>\n Police later found Little walking on a bridge on Midway Drive South.<\/p>\n The complaint says officers saw blood on Little\u2019s shirt and the shoulder.<\/p>\n They also reported seeing an empty knife sheath on his right hip.<\/p>\n Police said no knife was found in the arrest area.<\/p>\n Little was taken to the Beltrami County Jail.<\/p>\n During a recorded statement, Little denied stabbing anyone.<\/p>\n He also denied showing a knife to anyone.<\/p>\n Little also denied being at or near 409 Wood Avenue SE.<\/p>\n The complaint says Little is on supervised release until October 4, 2027.<\/p>\n That release is tied to earlier firearm and ammunition possession convictions.<\/p>\n Court records list the case as Beltrami County District Court file number 04-CR-26-1090.<\/p>\n More case information may be available through the Minnesota Judicial Branch case records system<\/a>.<\/p>\n A criminal charge is not a conviction.<\/p>\n Little is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\nPolice Responded To Camper Fire<\/h2>\n
