Detroit Lakes Woman Sentenced In Assault Case<\/h2>\n

Detroit Lakes<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Crystal Lynette Belland, 40, of Detroit Lakes, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for misdemeanor domestic assault.<\/p>\n

A felony charge of third-degree assault was dismissed under a plea agreement.<\/p>\n

According to court records, the case began on May 31, 2025. Detroit Lakes police responded to a domestic assault call at a residence on Highway 34.<\/p>\n

A woman at the home told police she had been beaten by Belland. She said the two had argued before the assault.<\/p>\n

The woman said Belland asked her to leave the residence. She then began gathering her belongings.<\/p>\n

At that point, Belland attacked her, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n

Injury Reported After Assault<\/h2>\n

Police said the woman had marks that matched a fight. Those injuries included a bloody nose.<\/p>\n

Belland was first cited for misdemeanor domestic assault. That charge was later dismissed.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors then filed a felony third-degree assault charge. That came after the woman contacted police again on June 2, 2025.<\/p>\n

She gave police medical records from Essentia Health St. Mary\u2019s-Detroit Lakes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The records showed the woman suffered a broken nose, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Sentence And Probation Ordered<\/h2>\n

On May 5, District Judge Gretchen Thilmoney sentenced Belland to 90 days in jail.<\/p>\n

All but three days were stayed for two years. Belland received credit for the three days already served.<\/p>\n

She was also fined $300. Court fines added another $160.<\/p>\n

Belland was ordered not to drink alcohol or use drugs. She must complete a full assessment.<\/p>\n

She must also follow all recommendations from that assessment. Those terms include aftercare.<\/p>\n

The sentence also requires cognitive skill training. Belland must follow cognitive behavioral programming as directed.<\/p>\n

She must receive a mental health evaluation. She must attend all scheduled mental health appointments.<\/p>\n

Belland must follow all recommendations from her mental health provider.<\/p>\n

The court also ordered her to complete a domestic abuse batterer\u2019s intervention program. She must follow all aftercare terms.<\/p>\n

Belland was placed on supervised probation for two years.<\/p>\n

The case was handled through Becker County District Court<\/a>. The police response involved the Detroit Lakes Police Department<\/a>.<\/p>\n
