Naytahwaush<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Naytahwaush man is facing felony arson charges after a reported grass fire in Mahnomen County.<\/p>\n

David William Jack III is charged in Mahnomen County District Court.<\/p>\n

The case was filed under court file number 44-CR-26-248.<\/p>\n

The complaint lists three charges against Jack.<\/p>\n

They include second-degree arson and wildfire arson.<\/p>\n

He is also charged with possessing flammable material to set a wildfire.<\/p>\n

The alleged incident happened on April 29, 2026.<\/p>\n

Witness Reported Grass Fires<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, deputies were called to 127 3rd Avenue.<\/p>\n

The call came in around 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The report involved a fire in Naytahwaush.<\/p>\n

A witness, Tabitha Porter, told deputies she saw \u201cDaeDae\u201d start the grass on fire.<\/p>\n

The complaint says \u201cDaeDae\u201d was later identified as David William Jack III.<\/p>\n

Porter said Jack used a lighter to start fires in three spots.<\/p>\n

The burning grass spread through yards at 126 3rd Avenue and 130 Center Street.<\/p>\n

The complaint says one house had melted siding.<\/p>\n

Suspect Later Found At Village Store<\/h2>\n

Porter told deputies Jack wore a red hoodie and black shorts.<\/p>\n

She also said he walked toward Mary Roy\u2019s place.<\/p>\n

Deputies then spoke with Mary Roy, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Roy reported seeing Jack walk toward New Circle.<\/p>\n

Deputies later found Jack at the Village Store.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Jack had a Bic lighter hanging from his shorts.<\/p>\n

Jack claimed he had been at his grandmother\u2019s all day.<\/p>\n

His grandmother told deputies they arrived at the store about 30 minutes earlier.<\/p>\n

Store video showed Jack entering the store at 1:43 p.m., according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Felony Charges Filed<\/h2>\n

The second-degree arson charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.562<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That charge carries up to 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n

It also carries a possible $20,000 fine.<\/p>\n

The wildfire arson charges cite Minnesota Statute 609.5641<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One count of wildfire arson carries up to 5 years in prison.<\/p>\n

That count also carries a possible $10,000 fine.<\/p>\n

The flammable-material charge is listed as a gross misdemeanor.<\/p>\n

It carries a maximum of 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n

Jack is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
