{"id":27672,"date":"2026-05-01T13:57:04","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T18:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=27672"},"modified":"2026-05-01T13:57:04","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T18:57:04","slug":"callaway-liquor-store-theft-ends-in-jail-term","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/callaway-liquor-store-theft-ends-in-jail-term\/","title":{"rendered":"Callaway Liquor Store Theft Ends In Jail Term"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Callaway<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Callaway woman has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony theft.<\/p>\n<p>Mandy Jean Dwyer, 39, was sentenced after a theft case tied to the city-owned Callaway Liquor Store.<\/p>\n<p>According to court records, Dwyer was accused of stealing more than $15,000 while working at the store.<\/p>\n<p>The reported thefts happened between Aug. 4 and Aug. 22, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The criminal complaint estimated the total theft at about $15,491.63.<\/p>\n<p>After she was caught, Dwyer returned about $7,700.<\/p>\n<p>That left the City of Callaway with a loss of about $7,791.63.<\/p>\n<h2>Short Till Sparked Investigation<\/h2>\n<p>The case began after the store manager reported concerns about missing money.<\/p>\n<p>The manager said the gaming till was short about $2,419 on Aug. 4.<\/p>\n<p>Dwyer was working during that time, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 7, the gaming till was short again by about $2,700.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities then reviewed store surveillance video.<\/p>\n<p>The first camera angle did not clearly show specific actions.<\/p>\n<p>However, records say Dwyer took longer than expected near the safe.<\/p>\n<p>She was also seen pulling a closet door shut.<\/p>\n<p>Because of those concerns, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arvig.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arvig<\/a> was contacted to improve camera coverage.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px 0;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: block; margin: 0 auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Mandy-Jean-Dwyer.png\" alt=\"Mugshot of Mandy Jean Dwyer\" \/><figcaption>Mandy Jean Dwyer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Video Showed Money Taken<\/h2>\n<p>Dwyer worked again on Aug. 15.<\/p>\n<p>The till was later reported short about $6,467.22.<\/p>\n<p>She also worked on Aug. 18.<\/p>\n<p>That day, the till was short about $1,521.41.<\/p>\n<p>Surveillance from Aug. 15 showed Dwyer taking $25 from an on-sale till.<\/p>\n<p>She brought the money into the office to make change.<\/p>\n<p>Records say there was no reason for her to enter the safe.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says she opened gaming till cash bags.<\/p>\n<p>She was then seen moving her hands toward her waistband.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said it appeared she concealed money on her person.<\/p>\n<h2>Dwyer Admitted Theft<\/h2>\n<p>Dwyer\u2019s next shift was Aug. 22.<\/p>\n<p>During that shift, video was monitored in real time from the city hall.<\/p>\n<p>She was again seen entering the safe and taking cash.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the shift, Dwyer was interviewed.<\/p>\n<p>She admitted to stealing money from the liquor store.<\/p>\n<p>She turned over $1,700 that was hidden in her pants.<\/p>\n<p>Dwyer also said she still had about $6,000 at home.<\/p>\n<p>She later turned over that money as well.<\/p>\n<p>According to the complaint, Dwyer said she stole to help pay for her son\u2019s college costs.<\/p>\n<h2>Sentence And Restitution Hearing<\/h2>\n<p>On April 6, District Judge Michelle Lawson issued a stay of imposition.<\/p>\n<p>If Dwyer completes probation, the felony will become a misdemeanor.<\/p>\n<p>Dwyer was ordered to serve 45 days in the Becker County Jail.<\/p>\n<p>She received credit for four days served.<\/p>\n<p>She must serve 15 days in jail.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining 30 days may be served on electronic home monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>Dwyer must pay that cost herself.<\/p>\n<p>Work release privileges were granted.<\/p>\n<p>She was fined $300 and must pay $85 in court fees.<\/p>\n<p>Dwyer was placed on supervised probation for five years.<\/p>\n<p>She was ordered not to use illegal drugs or alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>She must also complete cognitive skill training.<\/p>\n<p>A restitution hearing is scheduled for June 10 before Judge Lawson.<\/p>\n<p>More court information is available through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mncourts.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Judicial Branch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Chris Harper reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Callaway (trfnews.i234.me) \u2014 A Callaway woman has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony theft.
