{"id":26914,"date":"2026-04-26T13:02:48","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T18:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=26914"},"modified":"2026-04-26T13:02:48","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T18:02:48","slug":"east-grand-forks-man-faces-felony-drug-dwi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/east-grand-forks-man-faces-felony-drug-dwi\/","title":{"rendered":"East Grand Forks Man Faces Felony Drug DWI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>East Grand Forks<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Grand Forks man is facing felony DWI charges after a traffic stop in East Grand Forks.<\/p>\n<p>Ronald Alan Hamren is charged in Polk County District Court with two felony first-degree DWI counts.<\/p>\n<p>He is also charged with violating a restricted driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n<p>The case is filed in Minnesota\u2019s 9th Judicial District under court file 60-CR-26-487.<\/p>\n<h2>Traffic Stop In East Grand Forks<\/h2>\n<p>According to the complaint, the stop happened April 14, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement was on 2nd Street Northeast in East Grand Forks.<\/p>\n<p>A Ford F-150 driver was allegedly seen without a seatbelt.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says the right brake light was hanging from its socket.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities also reported that the top brake light was not working.<\/p>\n<p>The pickup also allegedly weaved to the right side of the road.<\/p>\n<p>A traffic stop was then conducted.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px 0;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: inline-block;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/HAMREN-RONALD-ALAN.jpg\" alt=\"Mugshot of Ronald Alan Hamren\" \/><em>Ronald Alan Hamren<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Complaint Alleges Drug Impairment<\/h2>\n<p>The driver was identified as Ronald Alan Hamren.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities reported that Hamren still was not wearing a seatbelt.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says he had bloodshot and watery eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities also reported restless behavior.<\/p>\n<p>A license check showed two restrictions on Hamren\u2019s license.<\/p>\n<p>One restriction said any alcohol or drug use would invalidate the license.<\/p>\n<p>The other restriction required ignition interlock.<\/p>\n<p>Hamren allegedly said he was on probation.<\/p>\n<p>He first said he last used methamphetamine about one month earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Later, he allegedly said he had used a few days earlier.<\/p>\n<h2>Urine Test Reported Positive<\/h2>\n<p>Authorities asked Hamren to perform field sobriety tests.<\/p>\n<p>During one test, he allegedly estimated 30 seconds in 15 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says that can show an accelerated internal clock.<\/p>\n<p>A preliminary breath test showed .000.<\/p>\n<p>Hamren continued showing restless and fidgety behavior, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>He was then arrested for DWI.<\/p>\n<p>A drug recognition evaluation was later completed.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says authorities believed Hamren was under the influence of drugs.<\/p>\n<p>A search warrant was granted for a blood or urine sample.<\/p>\n<p>Hamren agreed to provide a urine sample.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says a field test was positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and THC.<\/p>\n<h2>Felony Charges Filed<\/h2>\n<p>The DWI charges are listed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/169A.20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 169A.20<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also references <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/169A.24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 169A.24<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The restricted-license count is listed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/171.09\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 171.09<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Each felony DWI count carries up to seven years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Each also carries a possible $14,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint lists three prior impaired-driving incidents within ten years.<\/p>\n<p>The charges are only accusations at this stage.<\/p>\n<p>Hamren is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n<p>More case information may be available through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mncourts.gov\/Access-Case-Records.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Judicial Branch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Chris Harper reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>East Grand Forks (trfnews.i234.me) \u2014 A Grand Forks man is facing felony DWI charges after a traffic stop in East Grand Forks.
