Bemidji<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Cass Lake woman is facing a gross misdemeanor DWI refusal charge after a reported crash in Bemidji.<\/p>\n

Mickiah Patsy Ann Staples-Larose is charged in Beltrami County District Court.<\/p>\n

The case is filed in Minnesota\u2019s 9th Judicial District under court file 04-CR-26-812.<\/p>\n

The charge stems from an April 7, 2026, incident near Paul Bunyan Drive South and Union Street South.<\/p>\n

SUV Found Stuck In Snowbank<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, law enforcement responded at about 10:37 p.m.<\/p>\n

The call involved a reported accident in the city of Bemidji.<\/p>\n

When officers arrived, they found a dark-colored SUV off the roadway.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the SUV was stuck in a snowbank.<\/p>\n

A female was found in the driver\u2019s seat, according to court records.<\/p>\n

She was later identified as Mickiah Patsy Ann Staples-Larose.<\/p>\n

Authorities said Staples-Larose appeared slumped forward in the vehicle.<\/p>\n

The complaint says she appeared to have a drooping or sagging face.<\/p>\n

Vehicle keys were later found in the center console.<\/p>\n

Complaint Alleges Signs Of Impairment<\/h2>\n

Law enforcement made contact with Staples-Larose at the scene.<\/p>\n

Authorities reported watery, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.<\/p>\n

The complaint also says she had trouble speaking clearly.<\/p>\n

Authorities reported difficulty with divided-attention tasks.<\/p>\n

While speaking with officers, Staples-Larose allegedly asked them to trade seats.<\/p>\n

She allegedly wanted an officer to move her SUV from the snow.<\/p>\n

The complaint says she then wanted to leave.<\/p>\n

Staples-Larose denied medical help, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

Authorities reported that airbags were not deployed.<\/p>\n

They also reported no broken glass from the vehicle.<\/p>\n

Test Refusal Alleged<\/h2>\n

Authorities asked Staples-Larose to perform field sobriety tests.<\/p>\n

The complaint says she refused to perform those tests.<\/p>\n

Staples-Larose allegedly admitted to having \u201csomething to drink.\u201d<\/p>\n

She allegedly said it \u201cwasn\u2019t much,\u201d according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

She later said she had not been drinking.<\/p>\n

She also denied driving the vehicle, court records say.<\/p>\n

Authorities also asked Staples-Larose to submit to a preliminary breath test.<\/p>\n

The complaint says she refused that test.<\/p>\n

Staples-Larose was then taken into custody.<\/p>\n

She was transported to the Beltrami County Jail.<\/p>\n

At the jail, authorities read the Minnesota Breath Test Advisory.<\/p>\n

Staples-Larose refused to submit to a breath test, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Authorities told her that refusal was a crime.<\/p>\n

The complaint says she stated she understood, but still refused.<\/p>\n

Charge Filed In Beltrami County<\/h2>\n

Staples-Larose is charged under Minnesota Statute 169A.20<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The complaint also references Minnesota Statute 169A.26<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The charge carries up to 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n

It also carries a possible $3,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n

The complaint lists a prior misdemeanor of falsely reporting a crime case.<\/p>\n

The current charge is only an accusation.<\/p>\n

Staples-Larose is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
