{"id":26887,"date":"2026-04-26T11:26:50","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T16:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=26887"},"modified":"2026-04-26T11:26:50","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T16:26:50","slug":"bemidji-man-faces-felony-dwi-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/bemidji-man-faces-felony-dwi-charge\/","title":{"rendered":"Bemidji Man Faces Felony DWI Charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bemidji<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Bemidji man is facing felony DWI and canceled-license charges in Beltrami County District Court.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry Wynne Lane is charged with first-degree DWI.<\/p>\n<p>He is also charged with driving after cancellation as inimical to public safety.<\/p>\n<p>The case is filed in Minnesota\u2019s 9th Judicial District under court file 04-CR-26-803.<\/p>\n<h2>Vehicle Followed In Bemidji Area<\/h2>\n<p>According to the complaint, the incident happened April 6, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement reported seeing a vehicle make several unusual driving moves in Bemidji.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says the vehicle first pulled into Petro Serve on Paul Bunyan Drive Northwest.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of stopping at a pump or parking spot, it drove behind the store.<\/p>\n<p>The driver was seen smoking a cigarette and appearing nervous, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle then drove toward L&amp;M Fleet.<\/p>\n<p>It continued onto Highway 2 without entering the store, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle later stopped at Pete\u2019s Place West.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving that location, the vehicle stopped at the Wilton Bar.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px 0;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: inline-block;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Kerry-Lane.jpg\" alt=\"Mugshot of Kerry Wynne Lane\" \/><em>Kerry Wynne Lane<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Contact Outside Wilton Bar<\/h2>\n<p>Law enforcement made contact with the driver outside the Wilton Bar.<\/p>\n<p>The driver was identified as Kerry Wynne Lane.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says emergency lights were not activated during the contact.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities reported signs of alcohol impairment while speaking with Lane.<\/p>\n<p>Those signs included watery and bloodshot eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities also reported dilated pupils and an odor of alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>Lane allegedly admitted he did not have a valid driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n<p>A records check showed his license was canceled as inimical to public safety.<\/p>\n<h2>Breath Test Reported At .08<\/h2>\n<p>Field sobriety testing was then performed, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities reported nystagmus in Lane\u2019s eyes during testing.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also says Lane had balance problems.<\/p>\n<p>Those problems were reported during walk-and-turn and one-leg-stand tests.<\/p>\n<p>A preliminary breath test showed an alcohol concentration of .09.<\/p>\n<p>Lane was then placed under arrest, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>At the Beltrami County Jail, Lane was read the Minnesota Implied Consent Advisory.<\/p>\n<p>Lane agreed to take a breath test.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says that test showed an alcohol concentration of .08 at 9:35 p.m.<\/p>\n<h2>Felony DWI Charge Filed<\/h2>\n<p>Lane is charged under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/169A.20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 169A.20<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also references <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/169A.24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 169A.24<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The canceled-license charge is listed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/171.24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 171.24<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first-degree DWI charge is a felony.<\/p>\n<p>It carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>It also carries a possible $14,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says Lane has three prior non-felony DWI convictions within ten years.<\/p>\n<p>The charges are only accusations at this stage.<\/p>\n<p>Lane is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n<p>More case information may be available through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mncourts.gov\/Access-Case-Records.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Judicial Branch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Chris Harper reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) \u2014 A Bemidji man is facing felony DWI and canceled-license charges in Beltrami County District Court.
