{"id":26860,"date":"2026-04-26T10:22:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T15:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/?p=26860"},"modified":"2026-04-26T10:22:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T15:22:12","slug":"bemidji-drug-dwi-charge-filed-after-stop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/bemidji-drug-dwi-charge-filed-after-stop\/","title":{"rendered":"Bemidji Drug DWI Charge Filed After Stop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bemidji<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Red Lake man is facing gross misdemeanor charges after a traffic stop in Bemidji.<\/p>\n<p>James White is charged in Beltrami County District Court with DWI involving a controlled substance.<\/p>\n<p>He is also charged with driving after cancellation.<\/p>\n<p>The case is filed in Minnesota\u2019s 9th Judicial District under court file 04-CR-26-844.<\/p>\n<h2>Traffic Stop On Ridgeway Avenue<\/h2>\n<p>According to the complaint, the stop happened April 13, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement was finishing another traffic stop on Ridgeway Avenue Northwest.<\/p>\n<p>A vehicle with Red Lake registration passed the area traveling north.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says authorities later followed the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>They reported seeing a non-transparent sticker on the rear window.<\/p>\n<p>They also reported a lanyard hanging from the rear-view mirror.<\/p>\n<p>A traffic stop was then initiated, according to court documents.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px 0;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: inline-block;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/WhiteJames.png\" alt=\"Mugshot of James White\" \/><em>James White<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Complaint Alleges Signs Of Impairment<\/h2>\n<p>As authorities approached, the driver\u2019s door opened quickly.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says White remained seated in the driver\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities reported he was holding a bag of fruit snacks.<\/p>\n<p>White allegedly opened the snacks quickly and began chewing rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>During contact, authorities reported several signs of possible impairment.<\/p>\n<p>Those included fast speech, glassy eyes, and exaggerated movements.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also noted constricted pupils that did not react to light.<\/p>\n<p>White allegedly said he did not have a valid driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n<p>He also said he was unsure if the vehicle had insurance.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities learned White\u2019s driving privileges were canceled as inimical to public safety.<\/p>\n<h2>Blood Sample Sent For Testing<\/h2>\n<p>White denied ever using controlled substances, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities asked White to perform field sobriety tests.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says he was unable to complete them in a satisfactory way.<\/p>\n<p>White was taken into custody and brought to Sanford Emergency Room in Bemidji.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities obtained a search warrant for a blood or urine sample.<\/p>\n<p>White agreed to provide a blood sample.<\/p>\n<p>The sample was sent to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dps.mn.gov\/divisions\/bca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension<\/a> for analysis.<\/p>\n<h2>Charges Filed In Beltrami County<\/h2>\n<p>The DWI charge is listed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/169A.20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 169A.20<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint also references <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/169A.25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 169A.25<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The driving charge is listed under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/171.24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 171.24<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Each charge carries up to 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n<p>Each charge also carries a possible $3,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint lists prior DWI, drug, and license-related history.<\/p>\n<p>The charges are only accusations at this stage.<\/p>\n<p>White is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n<p>More case information may be available through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mncourts.gov\/Access-Case-Records.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Judicial Branch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Chris Harper reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) \u2014 A Red Lake man is facing gross misdemeanor charges after a traffic stop in Bemidji.
