Kingbird were listed as occupants in the reported vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>An officer later saw the distinct taillights of a Durango from several blocks away.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle was seen near the 1500 block of Bemidji Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>The officer caught up with the white vehicle, according to court documents.<\/p>\n<p>The Durango turned into a parking lot at 1106 Paul Bunyan Drive South.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center; margin: 25px 0;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 100%; height: auto; display: inline-block;\" src=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/CarrierDerrick-1.png\" alt=\"Mugshot of Derrick James Carrier\" \/><em>Derrick James Carrier<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>License Status Checked<\/h2>\n<p>The officer made contact with Carrier as he exited the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Carrier was told the reason for the contact, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Carrier allegedly said he was unsure if the cards were inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities were later advised that Carrier\u2019s driving privileges were canceled.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says the cancellation was listed as inimical to public safety.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities were also advised that Carrier had active warrants.<\/p>\n<p>A driving record check showed Carrier\u2019s privileges were canceled on August 8, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint says that status remained in place on the offense date.<\/p>\n<h2>Charge Filed In Court<\/h2>\n<p>Carrier is charged under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/171.24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Statute 171.24<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The charge is listed as driving after cancellation.<\/p>\n<p>It is classified as a gross misdemeanor.<\/p>\n<p>The maximum sentence is 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n<p>The charge also carries a possible $3,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint lists prior convictions and pending cases in Carrier\u2019s criminal history.<\/p>\n<p>Those include past DWI, drug possession, check forgery, and fleeing convictions.<\/p>\n<p>The new charge is only an accusation at this stage.<\/p>\n<p>Carrier is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n<p>More case information may be available through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mncourts.gov\/Access-Case-Records.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minnesota Judicial Branch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m Chris Harper reporting for <a href=\"https:\/\/trfnews.i234.me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRF News<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) \u2014 A Bemidji man is facing a gross misdemeanor traffic charge after a late-night vehicle contact.
