Mahnomen<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Bejou man is facing DWI charges after a traffic stop near Shooting Star Casino.<\/p>\n

Christopher Michael Holmvik is charged in Mahnomen County District Court.<\/p>\n

The case is filed in Minnesota\u2019s 9th Judicial District under court file 44-CR-26-147.<\/p>\n

The charges stem from a March 15, 2026, stop on U.S. Highway 59.<\/p>\n

Traffic Stop Near Casino<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, the stop happened at about 2:09 a.m.<\/p>\n

An officer was patrolling northbound on U.S. Highway 59<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The officer saw a vehicle leave the main entrance of the Shooting Star Casino.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the vehicle made a wide left turn onto Highway 59.<\/p>\n

The vehicle allegedly did not have rear lights activated.<\/p>\n

It then crossed the fog line, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

The officer also reported that the vehicle crossed the center line.<\/p>\n

The complaint says it nearly entered the southbound lane.<\/p>\n

Complaint Alleges Signs Of Impairment<\/h2>\n

The driver was identified as Christopher Michael Holmvik.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol.<\/p>\n

Holmvik\u2019s speech was described as slurred.<\/p>\n

The complaint also says he was unsteady on his feet.<\/p>\n

Holmvik performed a horizontal gaze nystagmus test.<\/p>\n

Authorities reported six out of six signs of impairment.<\/p>\n

Other roadside balance tests were not done due to safety concerns.<\/p>\n

During questioning, Holmvik allegedly admitted he was \u201cdrunk.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also allegedly said he had consumed \u201ctoo many\u201d alcoholic drinks.<\/p>\n

Breath Test Reported At .18<\/h2>\n

Holmvik was arrested and taken to the Mahnomen County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

At the sheriff\u2019s office, authorities again reported signs of impairment.<\/p>\n

Holmvik declined to perform the one-leg stand test.<\/p>\n

He agreed to submit to a breath test after the advisory was read.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the breath test showed a .18 alcohol concentration.<\/p>\n

The test was reported at about 2:50 a.m.<\/p>\n

Holmvik is charged with third-degree DWI involving .16 or more.<\/p>\n

That count is listed under Minnesota Statute 169A.20<\/a> and Minnesota Statute 169A.26<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He is also charged with fourth-degree DWI under Minnesota Statute 169A.27<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The third-degree count is a gross misdemeanor.<\/p>\n

The fourth-degree count is a misdemeanor.<\/p>\n

The charges are only accusations at this stage.<\/p>\n

Holmvik is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n
