Mahnomen County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Ponsford woman is facing a gross misdemeanor charge after a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 59.<\/p>\n

Ashley Jennifer Stevens, 37, is charged in Mahnomen County District Court with operating a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device.<\/p>\n

The case is filed in Minnesota\u2019s 9th Judicial District. The court file number is 44-CR-26-136.<\/p>\n

Traffic Stop On Highway 59<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, the incident happened February 23, 2026, at about 4:13 p.m.<\/p>\n

A law enforcement officer was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 59<\/a> in Mahnomen County.<\/p>\n

The officer reported seeing a southbound vehicle following another vehicle too closely.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the vehicles were about five to six feet apart when they passed the patrol vehicle.<\/p>\n

The officer turned around and stopped the vehicle, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

The driver was identified as Ashley Jennifer Stevens of Ponsford.<\/p>\n

Complaint Says Interlock Was Required<\/h2>\n

During the stop, the officer checked Stevens\u2019 driver\u2019s license status.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the check showed Stevens was required to use an ignition interlock device.<\/p>\n

An ignition interlock device is commonly tied to Minnesota driving restrictions.<\/p>\n

The device must be installed and functioning in vehicles driven by certain licensed drivers.<\/p>\n

Stevens was asked if the vehicle had an ignition interlock device installed.<\/p>\n

According to the complaint, Stevens said there was no device in the vehicle.<\/p>\n

The charge is listed under Minnesota Statute 171.306<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The complaint also references Minnesota Statute 171.09<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The offense is listed as a gross misdemeanor.<\/p>\n

The maximum sentence is 364 days in jail.<\/p>\n

The charge also carries a possible $3,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n

A summons was issued in the case.<\/p>\n
