WASHINGTON<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me)<\/a> \u2014 President Donald Trump signed a bill Friday honoring the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team.<\/p>\n

The law awards three Congressional Gold Medals to the team.<\/p>\n

The medals recognize the \u201cMiracle on Ice\u201d upset over the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n

That game ended 4-3 at the Lake Placid Olympics.<\/p>\n

Team USA later beat Finland to win gold.<\/p>\n

What the law does<\/h2>\n

The bill was led by Sen. Kevin Cramer of North Dakota and Rep. Pete Stauber of Minnesota.<\/p>\n

It directs three medals to be made for the 1980 team.<\/p>\n

Those medals will be displayed at three public sites.<\/p>\n

Organizers said the medal displays will be placed in New York, Minnesota, and Colorado.<\/p>\n

ABC announcer Al Michaels made the call famous.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cDo you believe in miracles?\u201d at the buzzer.<\/p>\n

White House ceremony<\/h2>\n

Players visited Washington for the signing.<\/p>\n

Several former players attended the event.<\/p>\n

They included captain Mike Eruzione and goalie Jim Craig.<\/p>\n

Forward Buzz Schneider also attended.<\/p>\n

Family members also represented late coach Herb Brooks.<\/p>\n

How it moved through Congress<\/h2>\n

Backers said the measure had broad support.<\/p>\n

The bill passed the U.S. Senate by unanimous consent in September.<\/p>\n

The signing came nearly 45 years after the upset in Lake Placid.<\/p>\n
