Thief River Falls <\/strong>(trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 Clayton Loiland of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025.
\nHe was 81.
\nHe died in Fargo, North Dakota, according to his family.<\/p>\n

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Service<\/a>
\nin Thief River Falls.
\nA celebration of life service will follow at 6:00 p.m.
\nRev. Tim Lundeen will officiate.<\/p>\n

Clayton Matthew Loiland<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Early Life<\/h2>\n

Clayton Matthew Loiland was born on May 25, 1944, at Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls.
\nHis parents were Olaf Loiland and Myrtle Johnson.<\/p>\n

He attended school through the ninth grade.
\nFamily members say he then began a life built around steady work.
\nHe spent many years farming.
\nHe also worked at Arctic Cat.<\/p>\n

Work and Daily Life<\/h2>\n

Clayton liked to stay busy, according to his family.
\nHe took on many odd jobs over the years.
\nThose included straightening buildings and doing steel roofing.
\nHe also tore down and moved buildings.<\/p>\n

He did mechanic work.
\nHe raised beef cattle.
\nHe also milked cows.
\nLoved ones say he was happiest when he had a project to do.<\/p>\n

Family<\/h2>\n

On November 1, 1982, Clayton married Betty Jean (Englund) Zavoral.
\nThe couple built a life together in Thief River Falls.<\/p>\n

Clayton is survived by his wife, Betty.
\nHe is also survived by two sons, Mike Loiland and Jeremy (Alison) Loiland, both of Thief River Falls.
\nHe is survived by a daughter, Marion Johnson of Strandquist.
\nHe is also survived by a son, Steve (Jodi) Zavoral of Thief River Falls.<\/p>\n

Grandsons include Eli Johnson, Jake Zavoral, Tristan (Cassidy) Loiland, and Aiden Loiland.
\nHe is also survived by a great-grandson, William Loiland.
\nHe is survived by a sister, Joyce Ruud of Isanti.<\/p>\n

Survivors also include sisters-in-law Shirley (Clayton) Omlid of Isanti, Karen Loiland of Ortonville, Ila (Englund) Hagen of Gatzke, and Sharon Englund of Warroad.
\nHe is also survived by a brother-in-law, Ken Englund of Thief River Falls, and his special friend, Barb Nomeland.
\nThe family also lists several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.<\/p>\n

Preceded in Death<\/h2>\n

Clayton was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Addison Loiland.
\nHe was also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Tami Nelson.
\nHe was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bruce Johnson.<\/p>\n

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Myrtle.
\nHe was also preceded in death by brothers Julian Loiland and John (Dennis) Loiland.
\nThe family also lists brothers-in-law Galen, Dwayne, Jerry, and Vernie Englund, and a sister-in-law, Pat Loiland.<\/p>\n
