Cass Lake<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me)<\/a> \u2014 A South Dakota woman now faces a criminal charge after a February crash in Cass County. Prosecutors say alcohol was a factor in the collision.<\/p>\n

Charge Filed In Cass County<\/h2>\n

Latrese Harmoni Black-Lance, of Sioux Falls, is charged with criminal vehicular operation causing bodily harm. The charge says her alcohol level was above 0.08 within two hours of driving.<\/p>\n

The case was filed in Minnesota District Court<\/a> in Cass County\u2019s 9th Judicial District. Court records list the charge as a gross misdemeanor. If convicted, she could face up to 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.<\/p>\n

What Investigators Say Happened<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, the crash happened on February 10, 2026, at about 7:57 a.m. The location was Highway 2 near 63rd Avenue NW in Cass Lake.<\/p>\n

Authorities say Black-Lance was driving a Pontiac G6. She was trying to cross Highway 2 from 63rd Avenue NW. Investigators say she failed to yield to westbound traffic. The Pontiac then collided with a Toyota Camry.<\/p>\n

The other driver was treated for wrist pain, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n

Test Results Cited In Complaint<\/h2>\n

The complaint says investigators noticed signs of alcohol use after the crash. It says Black-Lance had an odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes, watery eyes, and slurred speech.<\/p>\n

A preliminary breath test showed 0.167, according to the complaint. Investigators later obtained a search warrant for a blood sample.<\/p>\n

The blood sample was collected at 10:38 a.m. Court records say testing found an alcohol concentration of 0.133, plus or minus 0.008 grams per 100 milliliters of blood.<\/p>\n

The complaint also says that result had a 99.73 percent confidence level. The charge was filed under Minnesota Statute 609.2113<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Case Still Pending<\/h2>\n

Black-Lance has been charged, but not convicted. The complaint contains allegations. The case will now move through the court process in Cass County.<\/p>\n
