Pennington County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me)<\/a> Pennington County prosecutors have charged Justin David Shultz after a deadly crash near Goodridge. The criminal complaint says one person died. Two others suffered serious injuries.<\/p>\n

The case was filed in the Minnesota District Court<\/a>. Court records show Shultz faces one felony count of criminal vehicular homicide<\/a>. He also faces two felony counts of criminal vehicular operation causing great bodily harm<\/a>. Additional charges include fourth-degree DWI<\/a>, expired registration, and failure to stop at a stop sign.<\/p>\n

What the Complaint Says<\/h2>\n

According to the complaint, the crash happened on May 3, 2024. Investigators say it happened at 310th Avenue NE and Center Street in rural Pennington County. The complaint says Justin David Shultz was driving a white Buick southbound. A red Chrysler Town and Country was traveling eastbound through the intersection.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege Shultz did not stop at the stop sign. The complaint says the Buick entered the intersection and hit the driver\u2019s side of the van. Both vehicles then went into the ditch. The van rolled and came to rest upside down in the water.<\/p>\n

Death and Injuries Reported<\/h2>\n

The complaint identifies the deceased driver as Mary Jean May. A passenger, Kimberly Ann Barret, suffered fractures and other injuries. Another passenger, K.A.L., suffered a brain injury, spinal fractures, and other trauma. Court records say Kiesha Barrett was flown to Sanford in Fargo. Kimberly Ann Barret was taken to Sanford Health<\/a> in Thief River Falls.<\/p>\n

Alcohol Test and Reconstruction<\/h2>\n

The complaint says responders noticed signs of alcohol use. Investigators later obtained a blood sample through a warrant. According to the filing, the test result showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.146.<\/p>\n

The complaint also says crash reconstruction found no evidence of braking before impact. Investigators estimated the Buick was traveling about 48.5 miles per hour at impact. The filing says no brake defects were found. It also says phone records showed an active call close to the crash time.<\/p>\n

Investigators also reviewed video from the American Legion in Thief River Falls. The complaint says Shultz was there for more than four hours earlier that day.<\/p>\n

Some charge lines list an offense date of May 3, 2023. However, the complaint narrative states the crash happened on May 3, 2024.<\/p>\n

All charges are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/em><\/p>\n
