Roseau County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me)<\/a> A Gatzke man now faces several criminal charges after a traffic stop in Roseau County, according to a criminal complaint filed in Minnesota District Court.<\/p>\n

Gastin Jeffrey Kriel<\/strong>, 37, of Gatzke, is charged with two gross misdemeanor DWI counts. He also faces misdemeanor charges for an open bottle violation and a firearm transport violation.<\/p>\n

What the complaint says<\/h2>\n

The complaint says authorities received a driving report at about 4:30 p.m. on March 21, 2026. The report involved a white Chevrolet pickup heading north on Highway 89 from Wannaska toward Roseau.<\/p>\n

According to the filing, the pickup was moving across the roadway. The complaint says other vehicles had to move over.<\/p>\n

Court records say the pickup was clocked at 74 miles per hour in a 60-mile zone. The stop happened near Highway 11 and 260th Street.<\/p>\n

The complaint says the driver braked hard during the stop. The pickup nearly entered the ditch.<\/p>\n

Kriel was identified as the driver. The complaint says he got out of the vehicle without being told. The filing also says he showed slurred speech, watery eyes, and an odor of alcohol.<\/p>\n

Evidence listed in court records<\/h2>\n

The complaint says an alcoholic drink was found in the cupholder. Ice was still in the container.<\/p>\n

The filing also says Kriel declined field sobriety tests at the scene. He was then arrested on suspicion of DWI and taken to the Roseau County Detention Center.<\/p>\n

At the jail, the complaint says Kriel provided a breath sample on a DataMaster machine. The reported result was 0.25 at 6:29 p.m.<\/p>\n

The complaint also says two handguns were found in the pickup. They were listed as a Springfield Hellcat 9mm and a Glock 23 .40 caliber pistol.<\/p>\n

Charges filed<\/h2>\n

The case includes two DWI charges tied to alcohol impairment and alcohol concentration. The complaint says an aggravating factor was present because the alcohol level was above 0.16.<\/p>\n

The other two charges involve an open bottle and the transport of a loaded firearm in a vehicle.<\/p>\n

Kriel has been charged, but not convicted. The allegations must still be tested in court.<\/p>\n
