Arthur, N.D.<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Fargo man will spend more than three years in federal prison for his role in a bank theft in Arthur.<\/p>\n

Sentence Handed Down<\/h2>\n

Jacob Todd Stein<\/strong>, 30, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison. Court records show the sentence was filed on April 2. Stein also received credit for time already served.<\/p>\n

The sentence will run after another federal sentence Stein is already serving. Chief U.S. District Judge Peter D. Welte imposed the sentence in the U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Stein pleaded guilty in November 2025 to one count of bank larceny. Prosecutors said he entered BankNorth, at 340 Main Street in Arthur, on Jan. 7, 2025. Court documents said he did so with intent to commit larceny.<\/p>\n

Restitution and Supervision<\/h2>\n

The court ordered Stein to pay $10,119 in restitution to BankNorth. He also must pay a $100 special assessment. The restitution is joint and several with Tucker Kruze St. Croix and Zachary Adam Huesers.<\/p>\n

After prison, Stein will serve three years of supervised release. During that time, he must avoid alcohol and illegal drugs. He also must take part in substance abuse and mental health treatment.<\/p>\n

He must submit to random drug and alcohol testing. The court also recommended placement at a low-level security prison. The judge asked for a site as close as possible to Illinois.<\/p>\n

The court also recommended Stein for the 500-hour Residential Drug Abuse Program. That program is offered through the Federal Bureau of Prisons<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What Led to the Case<\/h2>\n

The case began early on Jan. 7, 2025. Deputies responded to an alarm at BankNorth in Arthur at about 2:15 a.m. They found that the bank\u2019s ATM had been forced open.<\/p>\n

During the investigation, authorities learned that another bank in Traill County had also been hit. A chase followed and ended on County Road 26 near Northern Cass School.<\/p>\n

Authorities arrested Stein and two other suspects after the chase ended. Federal court records later linked Stein to the Arthur bank theft. His guilty plea closed the criminal case against him. The sentence now sets the next stage, which includes prison time, repayment, and supervised release.<\/p>\n
