Langdon, North Dakota<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A Langdon man is in custody after a deadly shooting in Cavalier County.<\/p>\n

Authorities say Russell Andrew Hiltner is accused of killing a man on March 26. Court documents say the shooting happened inside a home in Langdon.<\/p>\n

What Witnesses Reported<\/h2>\n

According to documents, the Cavalier County Sheriff\u2019s Office received a call about the shooting that day. Deputies were then told Hiltner had taken the victim\u2019s vehicle and fled.<\/p>\n

An eyewitness told deputies she saw Hiltner approach the victim and hug him. She said Hiltner then told the victim, \u201cyou stole something from me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Documents say Hiltner then went to a couch and pulled out a pistol. The witness said he shot the victim moments later.<\/p>\n

The witness also told deputies she feared for her own life. She believed she might be shot as well.<\/p>\n

Vehicle Found in Wales<\/h2>\n

Authorities later found the stolen vehicle in Wales, North Dakota. Documents say the vehicle was pinned against a large tree.<\/p>\n

Deputies say they made contact with Hiltner at that scene. They also reported finding a 9mm handgun on the passenger seat.<\/p>\n

Hiltner was taken to Langdon Hospital for treatment. He was later airlifted to Altru Health System<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Search Warrant and Charges<\/h2>\n

Documents say a search warrant was executed at 12:20 a.m. on March 27. The search was carried out by the North Dakota Attorney General\u2019s criminal justice resources division<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the victim was found in the living room with a gunshot wound. A bullet was found in a living room wall.<\/p>\n

Authorities also reported finding a 9mm shell casing near the victim. A 9mm magazine was also found inside the home.<\/p>\n

Documents say the magazine was compatible with the handgun found in the vehicle. After the search, Hiltner was arrested for murder, theft, and terrorizing.<\/p>\n

He remains in custody at Altru hospital. Charges are allegations, and the case will move through court.<\/p>\n
