Crookston, Polk County<\/strong> (trfnews.i234.me<\/a>) \u2014 A 20-year-old Crookston man is in custody after felony charges in a domestic case.<\/p>\n

Felony charges filed<\/h2>\n

Jimmy Allen Gray Jr.<\/strong> faces two felony counts. The charges include threats of violence and domestic assault.<\/p>\n

The case stems from an incident on Feb. 27, 2026. It happened at a residence in Crookston, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

A criminal complaint was filed Tuesday in Polk County District Court. The complaint says Gray Jr. argued with a woman about her phone.<\/p>\n

Threats and alleged assault<\/h2>\n

Prosecutors say Gray Jr. threatened to set the woman on fire. The complaint says he threatened to pour synthetic oil on her.<\/p>\n

It also says he threatened to pour gasoline on her. Court records say he grabbed a bottle of oil during the dispute.<\/p>\n

A witness told police he saw Gray Jr. with his hands around the woman\u2019s throat. The witness also heard a threat to set her on fire.<\/p>\n

The complaint says Gray Jr. pulled the woman by her hair. It also says he struck her in the lip.<\/p>\n

Court records say he pinned her on a couch. The complaint says he later threw her onto a loveseat.<\/p>\n

Officers also referenced a phone recording in the case. The complaint says the recording captured him saying he would pour oil on her.<\/p>\n

Arrest and phone recovered<\/h2>\n

Police arrived, and Gray Jr. had left the home, according to the complaint. Officers later found him walking nearby.<\/p>\n

They took him into custody. The woman\u2019s phone was found in his pocket, court records say.<\/p>\n

Possible penalties and prior record<\/h2>\n

Each felony charge carries up to five years in prison. Each count also carries up to a $10,000 fine.<\/p>\n

Court records list a prior delinquency adjudication for threats of violence in November 2020. Records also show a felony threats conviction in February 2025.<\/p>\n
